Mark,
Do you have a black Mustang as well? I remember seeing one on the ramp at Jet Center in Carlsbad last year with The Saint Logo on the tail.

Yep that was me and that used to be my airplane. Sold it to go faster in a quieter airplane with a cabin 3 times as large for the same fuel flow (LOL).

Here is a pic of my old bird, she was a sweet ride:

Mark-

How you would compare the 2 (Mustang vs Avanti) as far as difficulty to "pilot". I would think the Mustang would be one of the easiest planes to fly from a pilot's perspective. How does it compare to the Avanti?

Its more difficult to fly the Avanti than the Mustang. Not tremendously more difficult but there is more to do. Props have to be adjusted, No Fadec so the power has to be monitored more closely and of course you have to be familiar with FMS data entry and the more professional style PL21 Collins systems. The nose wheel steering system takes a bit getting used to as well.

I find the airplane a dream to fly and pretty much was comfortable in it after 2 or 3 flights. YMMV.

Of course the Mustang is easier to fly than a Cessna 182 so thats not a really very good comparison. The MU2 would be similar in difficulty.

AOG this week in Dallas. Went to start number 2 on a hot ramp and after a split second the switch flipped off. Second attempt had same result.

Managed to get a new starter gen down from Tulsa and Had installed this am. Started up and blasted off.

My starter gens had 1000 recommended life. One that failed was at 997 hours.

Failure was a shearing of the shaft.

Was light on the way home. 380 true at fl340 on an ISA 10 day. Hard to complain about that.

Do you mind me asking what starter/gens cost? Just want to compare to TPE331 pricing which is about $2500.

Chatted with Neal a few days ago as he just sold my Mooney. Every time I take something else out for a go around and then fly my PC12, I realize how damn good that airplane is for my mission. What I want now is to go and fly and use my airplane for what its designed to do, take me places. I'm not that interested in figuring out new planes, parts, problems etc, as they take a fair bit of time. I think that Mark, Anthony, and soon to be Tony are definitely going to love that airplane.

I'm happy where I am right now. Just need to get another piston airplane, which I'm looking for right now.

The PC12 is an incredible airplane and with your large family I don't think you can beat it short of a mid sized or larger jet.

The Avanti comes close to the PC12 in cabin and carrying capacity but doesn't have the gear hauling room that I think you really take advantage of. The reason it wasn't on my list is simply speed. Speed is a function of TAS, range and max altitude (to go over instead of around weather). For me, where 75% of missions is 1-2 people the Avanti cabin is overkill but that other stuff matters a lot to me.

You're lucky if your needs and desires stay static is this avocation because change is expensive!

The II I have under contract is in prebuy and so far so good. Here are a couple of pics:

Truer words have never been spoken. Its kind of like getting married again, you gotta figure out what works and what doesn't when you start living with them.

Wow, not bad. I keep hearing horror stories of big block PT6 pricings, but that's very reasonable. I knew a few Turbo Commander owners who kept a starter/generator with them as a spare at all times, just because they could.

On these planes part cost is a coin flip. Wrong thing breaks and it’s an expensive day. Most mechanics say they don’t break that often. I hope they are right.

My next piston airplane will have a chute, either in the chair or the airframe. :D
