There is a lot of confusion as the engine issues were somewhat complex. The first DA42's came with 1.7L Thielerts and they had a history of issues. The main real issue was that cooling nozzles would break off and this was an expensive fix. The gearbox and clutch issues were mainy "paper" issues as I never had or heard of any actual failures. There were several bad serial number batches of clutches that caused AD's, the clutch was not horribly expensive but the labour was steep. Both clutches and gear boxes were originally at 300 hrs with 600 hrs life's coming "soon". Only recently have the life extensions came through. There was also some pressure pump issues in regards to the injection system. There was also the AD form when the operator boosted both engines for start which was against the POH and the gear retraction caused a electrical bump and took all the engine ECU's offline and all went quiet. There are also a lot of bitter early owners as they were to get maintainance and clutch and gear box replacement for a period of time and this was lost with the brankruptcy. There was a period of about 6 - 8 months were parts were tough to come by. Engine Parts are now reasonably priced and availability is very predictable. I have owned my 2008 DA42 since 2010 and other than unexpected initial annual on a plane sold as new by a dealer that I have vowed to never grace again, the plane has been been scheduled maintance only and never AOG'd. My expectation is that this 2006 with the new 2.0l Thielerts will be just a good. Hope that answers your questions

This plane had the original 1.7 L engines, we upgraded to the 2.0 L versions which have great reliability and better performance. It's kind of like going to a 550 in a Bo performance wise as specs are "booked" at the same numbers but the bigger cubed engine performs better. These are also new engine and accessories so latest and greatest versions plus come with 2 yrs of warranty.
