No, pilot flying his plane in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Who's being un-civil? We're arguing on the internet.

Fixed the grammar. Sorry.

You guys are being un-civil.

You called a guy a phallus.

That's below the standard to which I've become accustomed on Beechtalk.

Just trying to regress to the mean... :harhar:

I'm coming down on the side of the beach.

If he landed in the water, PETA would put him in jail for killing a smelt.

I don't know all the facts regarding this pilot's situation and I will not judge his actions. He did have a responsibility to the passenger in the plane which was a known factor. I hope no one else has to make the same judgment call.

There is no such thing as an "act of God" anymore........we're now subjected to an "occurrence of nature"......

Well, thank God for that.

And what if he would have landed in the water just off the beach and killed a swimmer or hit a boat and killed multiple people? How about if you swerve in your car to miss a deer and hit someone head-on? How about if you change the oil in your plane and forget to tighten the oil filter and you crash land into someone's home? How about if there is ice on your step at home and someone slips on it and is seriously hurt?

We have FREEDOM in this country and sometimes it comes with consequences. Our freedom is being robben by the courts and the people that want us to be serfs again. I am sick about hearing lawsuits for normal accidents. It is BS.

I sure hope that some of you sue-happy perfect pilots don't throw a prop off your plane and make a choice to land somewhere that kills someone. If you do, you better pray you kill someone like me instead of someone that thinks money will bring back the dead person.

You can land in the ocean 100 yards off the beach and know there's not going to be anyone there.

He landed on an extremely populated beach.

We fly airplanes. We know the risk. There is no "act of god" when flying airplanes. Don't want to die in an airplane? Don't fly in one.

Call me "sue happy" all you want. I'll call you "unaccountable for your actions".

One more thing: The next time you guys step into your single engine POS you better make sure that the engine does not have more than TBO on the hour meter, more than the recommended calender year overhaul by Continental, more than the calender year or hour meter rec on the prop, more than the rec on the vaccuum pump, more calender year time than rec on the pressure hoses, etc because when that lonely air cooled relic takes a crap over a populated area and you have no option but to hit something that will cause property loss or injury to persons you better bet your butt than some attorney will make you look like a criminal if you do not have an airplane maintained according to the recommendations of the manufacturers that built the components on that engine.

If you are good enough to dodge that bullet, he will then come back at you with the fact that you knew it was dangerous to fly a single engine plane over populated areas and you are at fault and just plain evil and deserve to live in poverty forever.

Just remember the above the next time you start the engine in that Bo because it may be the last time you do before you are in the same shoes as the guy that crashed.

Single engine planes are dangerous and anyone that causes death in one should be sued. How about them apples?!

Here's the bottom line:

This was NOT an accident. This pilot made a decision to land on the beach. He didn't have to make that decision.

Todd, like always, you've gone overboard. People can have an argument without getting personal. But, you can't.

Way way way too much drama here tonight.

My momma always told me:

If there's drama swirling all around you, and it's not YOUR drama, just sit back, get some popcorn, watch, and enjoy!

Pass the popcorn...

You're wrong. With freedom comes responsibility. Freedom does not mean you can do whatever the hell you want. Your freedom to swing your fist ends at my nose. No one is saying this pilot should be punished because he had an accident. I'm saying that because he had an accident he was given a choice between saving his skin/jeopardizing others and saving others/jeoparding himself. He chose to save himself. His freedom to fly came with the responsibility to avoid killing people.

I don't know how that figures into your paranoid world where the courts are turning you into a serf or whatever, but by the sound of your posts I imagine we're going to find you in a one room cabin in Idaho pretty soon.

Remember the end of The Great Santini? Duvall takes his F-4 out to sea rather than crash into the town. This Lancair guy was no Great Santini. That's all I'm saying.

Yea, you are right. The guy obviously meant to throw the prop off the plane and thought it would be fun to see if he could hit just one person on the beach since he could not see out of his winshield and it would be sporting.

So, just so we are clear, you will never fly your plane over a populated area where a forced landing could cause you to hit someone, correct? Because if you do hit someone then you will be at fault for flying unsafely and causing the death. It will not be an accident.
