I know it's not a Beech but this forum is pretty inactive anyways.

I've been researching them but only because they seem to be relatively inexpensive to acquire and seem to have a lot of utility above and beyond the fact that they're bad ass.

Specs:

Climb 4000 fpm on 330GPH
Cruise 400-500+ knots on 180GPH (can go as fast as Mach .8)
Range 1000 miles with the tip tanks full

Most guys seem to cruise at 22,000 feet and below.

They have a nose baggage compartment too.

Pressurized, AC and heat.

So it seems for a couple hundred grand you can have a real screamer that can be used to get around with 2 people (90% of my flights).

Guys that own them seem to love them and they seem to have a big support and parts network.

Sure, you're burning some gas but you're also "haulin' ass".

Any thoughts?

I stared for a long time at one that came into my field and thought the same thing. He did a pretty buzz job with a steep climbout. It looked awesome.

Something that did stand out was the noise. I'm not up on all the noise regulations, but you might have limitations on what fields are elgible for access (i.e. Naples).

The $650,000 Eclipse seems to be a little less worse purchase vs this jet.

I have a buddy with one at PDK. He offers to fly me if I split gas with him. He never mentioned anything about needing special permission to fly it. I think he fuels it up and goes. Maybe I'm wrong.

So what's holding you up????

Take your video camera, or it didn't happen!

I have insured many of these - low hull values, good flying qualities and yes, plenty of parts and folks that know them stateside.

I had a client that wanted coverage for the Caribbean for his L-39 - we joked that the plane was perfect for the guy, his girl, her bikini and his toothbrush. I'm still jealous when I think of that beautiful machine (with a corporate paint job!) flying to the Bahamas...

I haven't run into the guy in a while. But I think I'll take him up on his offer when I see him.

I can hook up rides for you if you end up coming out west for the BT fly-in... (my friend is selling 7 of these)

Mike,

Reading the rules you posted, it seems you can register the L39 as either "Experimental" or "Exhibition". Each has it's own set of rules.

What does this mean?

"You can land your L-39 in places that will require a truck to depart from."

I don't think the experimental ones operate that way

So, what's involved in re-classifying it as an "experimental" ? Also, how does that affect the insurance?

I don't know what's involved in the conversion but the airworthiness type wasn't too much of a discussion point when I placed the insurance. But I believe all of them (I've insured 11) were Experimental...

So if I'm experimental and I fly down to PBI, are they not gonna let me land?

Or will they think it's so cool they'll roll out the red carpet?
