Dual concentric knobs means it's got a radar interface. Which radars does it support (there are two versions of the radar interface)?

All EX500 and 600 units have the dual knobs. And there's about 5 different radar versions supported by these. All depends on the part number. The -004 is the 130/150/160 series of Bendix Radars.

That's not exactly true depending on what you mean by dual knobs. The ones with a radar interface have two sets of dual concentric knobs (two rotary knobs on each side) while the ones without a radar interface have two single rotary knobs, one knob on each side.

Thanks. IIRC the RDR 130-160 radars have an analog interface of some sort. The EX500 and 600 I used to have interfaced to the RDS81/82 and others via two serial connections.

Yes that is correct, 2 vs a total of 4 knobs. And this 700-00007-004 is the RDR 130/150/160 analog interface, black bezel with Quake SC (which is obsolete).

This guide describes the Avidyne EX500/EX600 MFD with all available sensors and software options installed. Therefore, the EX500/EX600 page layouts and key descriptions in this guide may differ from those on your EX500/EX600 display. The standard EX500/EX600 version and the radar-capable EX500/EX600 differ in the number of function knobs.

* The standard EX500 has two knobs: a Page knob and a Range knob.

* The radar-capable EX500 and the EX600 have four knobs, two on the left of the display and two on the right. The right-hand knobs are usually used for Page and Range, the left-hand knobs provide dedicated radar Bearing and Tilt control, along with other functionality, depending on the page being viewed.

Understanding that this unit has the RDR 130/150/160 interface, will it also display XMWx?

My current unit (with RDR160) also displays XMWx through a feed from a HeadsUp (brand) display and I'd need that XM capability.

Yes, I sold my Heads Up XM receiver together with the EX600 I removed a few years ago when I redid my panel with Garmin glass. The combination worked well although there wer a few types of weather data that XM provides that wouldn't display on the EX600. None were a big deal though and I never had any issues with the XM receiver.

AFaIK you cannot display XM weather from a Garmin GDL69 on a EX500/600 though.

Thanks, Lance. I wanted to make sure there wasn't another unlock charge for that although I don't remember being charged for one when I bought my Ex500 (20 or More?) years ago.

You can also send the unit to Duncan for the 4.2.2 software upgrade, which will then allow ADS-B traffic and FIS-B weather to be displayed from select units

Do they charge much for that? Is a GTX345 among the "select"? I think I might have done that on my EX600 to get weather and traffic from the 345.
