I’m going to completely expose myself here:
I didn’t see them as a threat. I’m 60, so not a millennial.
And it wasn’t because our past president seemed to trust them so much. I started thinking better of them sometime around the time they hosted the Olympics.
Those of you who knew better? You’re better students of history than I, I’m sure. There were plenty of detractors when we (as a nation, or at least… well, you know whom) seemed to be placing a large amount of trust in them.
Now? Putin seems all the more evil because of it.

the measure of a free country is a free press
and even better a press that is required to have what they say based in evidence. that does not mean there won't be misleading information and competing conclusions coming from that information but all the evidence is available to everyone.

Patton certainly had foresight when he advocated pressing on and dealing with the Russians after defeating the Germans. I am not saying that would have been administratively, politically or militarily feasible (at least not without taking unacceptable losses), but it does show he had a pretty good crystal ball.
