I am thinking of putting a Legend Cub on the flight line at a local flying club. Most likely, around $140 per hour, and only dual due to insurance reasons.
Is flying a Cub attractive to you? Is the airplane only being available for dual a turnoff to you? With insurance + other fixed costs, it’ll have to fly 15+ hours per month. How likely do you think this is?

How likely do you think this is? Yes. That’s relatively cheap flying today. Not sure you’ll get 15 hours - just depends on the pilots. Doubt many people will be putting 6+ hours on it during a weekend trip like they would with a traveling airplane, but conversely I suspect there will be a lot of demand on nice weather days. Also just depends on the pool of tailwheel pilots. There are just more people who can (insurance wise) fly a 172 than a Cub. Robert

Thanks for the replies.
Insurance in a $90,000 hull, dual only, is around 4,500/year. For solo, it would be $9300/year. I’m just not sure that the difference in premium can be made up by allowing solo, as much as I’d love to.

Depending upon where the aircraft is based, you could run a two or three days "Bush Flying Clinic" for a fixed price (e.g. 6 hours flying over three days). Pilots would travel for that, and the aircraft might be flying everyday in the season. Pics below are with a PA22/20

Other instructors would be fine.. essentially no non-CFI solo would be the insurance restriction.

A local club has (or had, haven't checked recently) a taildragger for rent - a Citabria perhaps? It was a VERY busy airplane, BUT its level of use has been bottlenecked by the availability of tailwheel-capable instructors. I know this only because I have been chatting with one of those tailwheel-capable instructors who was complaining that he couldn't get a day off!

I would rent one, but not if solo flight (or flight with a passenger of my choosing) was prohibited.
