I honestly never expected to sell my 180 or 195 before I hung up my wings. Bottom line is that the fallout from Covid and the impact on the airlines is demanding a more capable cross country airplane for our personal use, and I don't have hangar space for a 4th airplane.
Aubie knows 195's and the 195 community so he is handling the 195 sale. I am placing both the 180 and 195 here and on TAP but if there is interest in the 195, contact Aubie.
The refurbishment of the 180 was chronicled here when I took it to Del Lehman for extensive work before paint and interior. The airplane was damaged in a ground loop accident early in its life, repaired and flown for over 30 years, I think, by the same family. Del took it apart, as needed, to redo some things correctly, to make cosmetic repairs and re-skin all control surfaces. He also found that the airplane had originally had rudder trim, found the parts, and reinstalled that as well to factory specs. With the re-rig and a few speed enhancement items, the airplane is fast; as the Aspen readout shows, 168 mph true at 10,500' coming back from West Virginia in late May.
The wing does have a cuff, installed by Owl that was later bought out by Horton, I think. You can see the cuff in one of the photos I will post. With two people and full fuel, it will be off before you can get the throttle fully open and land about like a Super Cub. It flies true. I think I could work a crossword puzzle and hand fly an approach at the same time.
The airplane has standard 60 gallons usable and is good for 4+ hours plus IFR reserves. It also has a rare feature, the stretcher door. It does not have a float kit as the float kit and stretcher door exclude one another.
During refurbishment, this airplane was virtually taken apart and put back together by both Del and my mechanic, Chris Rudd. If there is a problem anywhere, I don't know about it.

I would have a high degree of trust in any plane that was sent to Del Lehmann for a full workup as this one was. My V35 was sent to Mountain Airframe in Mena in 2008 by the previous owner, had a Continental factory engine (like this one) and as a result has been a wonderful, reliable, no-surprises airplane for me.

I wish I had a ‘need’ for a 180 right now. What a beautiful plane - and done up right when you became its caretaker.
Hope you find fitting homes for both.

In light of your desire to avoid comments regarding the reason for your decision, I will be respectfully brief:
I am saddened, as many on this forum, to see these airplanes for sale. I have made many life-long friends that own One-Eighties, and have never met a man or woman that didn't rue the day they sold theirs. So noble is the 180, that it will ask little more than a windshield cover and a tiedown near your home. It will serve you and be your companion, making your existence more enjoyable, as long as you live.
Please reconsider, my friend.

One of the best pilots I ever knew flew one of these out of Yellow Pine, where he lived. Kif Brown.
How much runway or grass do you need?

Tod, I'm going to tell you what you already know. It depends. An airplane that grosses 2850# with a 1000# useful load is two airplanes: light and loaded. With full fuel, Karen and me, we are still 300# under gross and takeoff and landing is short even without effort 600-700'. Put the other 300# aboard and high DA and you could get out to 900' I'm guessing. Mine does have a cuff made by Owl which sold out to Robertson. It flies at 50 mph so takeoff roll is getting there and landing is stopping from there. My years and hours in the air have made me conservative. My "expertise" does not equate to making an airplane stall at a slower speed or accelerate at a greater rate. That being said, I would have no qualms in operating this airplane off of 1200' of grass and 1000' of hard surface. It does allow a steep approach and Vx is also an aggressive gradient, so obstacles would not be quite the issue as with other airplanes. The Knots2U wheel pants would have to be removed for grass though. Jg

I don't figure it is going anywhere. I told Karen this morning, I don't have two aircraft for sale, I have two collector's items. A tee hangar has come vacant so I can hangar 4 airplanes if necessary. Jg
