The Excaliber Queenair was an awesome aeroplane. I used to fly one in the early 90s - a great engine...not sure bolting one on a Comanche was a terribly great idea though.
I think the NA 260 Comanche was probably the pinnacle of that type. I think corrosion has killed the vast majority of them off.

The 400 Comanche was built like rock and flew like a rocket!

Forgive my laziness. I can search or just "ask you'. What were the locations of the corrosion on the Comanches? I thought they were all corrosion proofed during construction.
Jg I have only seen serious corrosion affecting a Comanche on one occasion. It was on the main spar in the wheel well where the steel landing gear actuator cable support tripod bolts to it. It was inter granular but only occurred because the wing was sitting on the damp Florida ground outside for a number of years. The steel stabilator attach fitting is prone to rust but is a relatively easy item to source and replace. The PA23s were built with the same type of primer and essentially do not suffer airframe corrosion either.

Jg I think you're correct - I must be thinking about a different aircraft. Perhaps early Mooneys?

Chuck, Mooneys had/have an issue with corrosion from water seeping in the side glass. It can be easily missed during a pre-buy. I always thought Comanches were just plain cool looking airplanes, but they seem to have an inordinate number of AD's. I'm sure that if you found one that had really been kept in top shape, it would make a good airplane. I've always wanted one but, then, I've always wanted just about every airplane I ever saw. Jg
