Hi Everyone I have done an intensive search in the forum for a discussion on the Silver Eagle but have only found 1 or 2 threads focussing solely on the plane. (maybe that's a sign) We are currently looking at upgrading our Bonanza A36 to a Cessna P210 Silver Eagle. While the Bonanza does everything we ask of it and love it dearly, we have the need to get out of a short unimproved strip (think 2,200ft). There is also a desire to get behind a turbine. What are everyone's opinions/experience/reviews of the Silver Eagle, am I overlooking anything? (Current Listing for Reference) https://www.controller.com/listing/...s ... p-aircraft

They are definitely cool machines, but for $700k+ (average price) why not look at a TBM700, a bunch more plane for about the same $$

However another pilot at our airport has owned three, when we explained our goal he stated "make sure you budget in $5,000 for a prop refurbish as every time you land on gravel because the TBM prop clearance is so low".

If only they made a pressurized A36 that someone could convert to a turbine!
Reminds me of an April fools thread when somebody posted that Cirrus released a new SR22 Pressurized Retractable. But i cant find the thread

Tj You are most likely very correct. I'm just hoping that the insurance will be cheaper than our second choice, a Bell 206L. It would fix our landing/takeoff distance problems.

I fly regularly out of a gravel strip. You could do 2 other things for gravel operations...
1) Buy an MT prop with the full nickel leading edge.
Depending on the plane you may be able to add big tires and/or over service the air in the nose fork to get the prop out of the dirt. Even raising the prop an inch makes a big difference.
I have this prop on a Cessna 205. I also have a good tug setup and don’t taxi any more than absolutely necessary. Land then pull straight off and shutdown. I do the run up in an open ended, paved hangar or while rolling.
2) if you really need to travel fast and far you may want to have a piston single on the gravel and keep a traveling plane at the closest paved airport. Gravel is a nasty thing and most traveling machines don’t mix well with gravel. Short strip is also a challenge for a traveling plane as you generally are loaded heavy with fuel on takeoff.
I bought my Cessna 205 for what one set of props cost on the King Air. Added 8.5 tires, extra air in the nose fork and nickel edged MT prop, so far no prop dings.

The Silver Eagle market is and always will be a tiny niche. The Piper Meridian or JetProp does everything better with better insurability and the parts support of a big company. The 210 only has like 3.5 psi and the Pipers have like 5.5 psi. Big difference when you go high. I am not sure if the Allison has enough extra boost to keep the cockpit pressurized when high or in descent.
Going from a short unpaved runway to a fast/high pressurized cruise is a very tough requirement. Pilatus probably does it best, but expensive. Most people drop one or the other requirement.

Is the P210 affected by the recent spar AD? If it isn't, is it different enough to not be affected by a similar AD in the future as the fleet ages?
