We have several students taking a 3 day test prep today. The heat is on to get our second airplane out of the nest ASAP. We should hang the engine next week and have the interior readied for paint. There are a lot of small but important items to do, like plumbing for fuel pumps and filters, canopy installation and skirting glass work. But, in the big scheme of things the airplane should fly in a few months. Eagle’s Nest provides 20 hours of airplane use for each student that has their written passed.

We’re in our fourth year of this program and we fired up our second airplane last week. I should get a call about the inspection tomorrow. Our third airplane could fly by the end of the school year if we have all the parts. We got its finish kit inventoried today. We lack engine and avionics kits to complete it.
Anyone want a brand new RV-12is? 90k will buy it already built.

This is so cool. I wish all schools had things like this. Projects like this one are how you get kids interested in STEM.

Granbury High School is looking to us, as mentors, to serve on their steering committee to develop a complete aviation campus. The perfect deal is that the school is located next to the municipal airport.

Airworthiness certificate has been issued by the MIDO. We’ll fly first thing next year. Taxied to the airport where the wings will be installed.

In the days of instant gratification and cheat codes this is awesome for kids. A project that you can’t rush and can’t skip to the end. If one kid gets a career or even a passion for aviation this is well worth the effort.

Few of these kids have ever changed a tube in a bicycle tire. Mostly get hauled around to sporting events. I tell em that at some point in their lives, they will have to change out a ceiling fan. They will take away a skill set of using simple hand tools. It’s rewarding to see them working out problems together.

Ernie Butcher is the brains and $$$$ behind our project.

I would love to take donations but this is the guy that makes it all work. Please contact him for information on donating and please drop in and see our airplanes. We should have a roll out ceremony sometime by early second quarter at KGDJ. I understand that we won’t go to paint until we get warmer weather.
I’ll certainly keep you all posted.
