Looking to see if anyone has any owner experience with a beaver on tires...DHC-2. I have a dream of building one from a project level and was looking for some advice or guidance in the right direction for parts or salvage. Also any great beaver stories....

Dad bought one in a crate, Army surplus about 45 years ago. We spent a year stripping paint, racks, wiring, etc and certifying it. I did a fair amount of paint stripping and I never want to do another. Think olive drab 3 coats thick, applied with a four inch house painters brush.  Filled two barrels with racks and wiring from all the Army comm gear. Engine was pickled and fine, ran good. Prop needed hub and overhaul though. DHC sold a kit back then for converting military Beavers to civilian, main part of which was removing skylights in ceiling and covering holes with aluminum. On wheels, light, it flies like a six place Cub. Stalls ridiculously slow. Pull prop back in cruise, open side window, stick elbow out in breeze and cruise like you were driving your fifties classic in the town parade.

This one lives in the hangar next door to me. I fly it quite a bit. This pic was taken about 150 West of Churchill at Webber Lodge on North Knife Lake. It was an epic trip.
I have to admit, on amphibs she likes a lot of lake....

Don that’s awesome and that’s what I’m dreaming of. I’m in the process of putting in a 1900’ strip at our place and I’m in no rush but keep getting drawn to the beaver for a plane to pull of of the barn and go where ever the adventure may be.

That's wheels up. If they were extended, they'd be 2 feet under water.

From 1979 to 1983 I worked in the maintenance shop of my Dad's bush airline.
We had mostly beavers. I was involved with one Military to Civilian conversion.
Completely awesome airplane.
I only remember two jobs being less than easy.....
1)It was impossible to pull the oil screen without getting an oil shower......
(As the most Junior person in the shop I always got this job)
2)If you had to pull the floor boards to get to the fuel tanks, the floorboard screws were always really difficult to get out after they had been in the floor for a season or two.
Other than that I was a pleasant easy to work on beast.
The R-985 was bullet proof.
One needed a fair number of special tools to work on the R-985, and it was impossible to cure ALL the oil seeps leaks and drips...
The single Jesus nut on the prop was also kind of differnt....
Fond memories of that plane...
