All of that sort of operating an airplane is just great untill something goes different than it did the last time. And when it happens to go wrong it will happen so fast that there is no chance for recovery. There are plenty of Alaska airplanes that are bent by pilots that have gotten away with that brand of flying for years and then, "wham." Also, even if everything goes right it is still tough on the equipment, even a tough piece of equipment like the 182/180/185/Super Cub/etc.

Nice flying. Looks like a lot of fun. One of my dreams is to fly around from gravel bar to gravel bar doing some fly fishing far away from the crowds.

Larry, your videos are getting better and are really using the drone well.

I hope you'll take this in the spirit offered.

You are a good pilot, and you have good equipment. You also are pushing the limits. When you hang around close to the edge, it doesn't take much to take you over.

My perspective comes from producing television and videos for 30+ years, with a lot of aviation video in that mix. In the push to get more views on YouTube and to make sponsors happy, there is a strong urge to do spectacular things. People have been known to do things for the camera that they would never do otherwise.

I offer two examples from my own experience. When we were shooting "Wings To Adventure" for Outdoor Channel, I always told pilots to not do anything "exciting" or push any limits. It's just a TV show. But ...

We had one pilot crash his L39 flying to the airport we were going to use. I assumed he wasn't coming because the weather was so bad. Low ceiling -- maybe 300 feet. We never even saw or heard him come in, but he slid the L39 off the runway, down an embankment, and over a road. No one was hurt, but it really tore up the plane.

One other example which still causes me pain. A demo pilot for an aircraft company killed himself while trying to show that "this plane won't stall." I was not there when it happened. I was flying the camera ship on an air-to-air video flight, and when we returned to the field, he had already crashed in a stall/spin from 200 feet. All caught on video by our crew. He left a family and a lot of friends.

There is a tendency to try to outdo what others on YouTube are doing. As has been said, you can only tie the low-flight record.

You can get great video without sticking your wheels in the water, etc.

Your call, but from my perspective of knowing how these things can happen, and how people keep pushing to get more impressive video, I hear warning bells going off.

I know I'm not the only one concerned about what you are doing. We care about you and want you to be here for a long time.

Was that on the Snohomish river?
Years a go i was flying in the back of a Cub Crafters super cub during a promo video shoot with the owner of CC and he drug the wheels on the Yakima river. Initially scared the hell out of me, but it was pretty thrilling. We had huge tundra tires. I survived to tell the story.

Thanks a lot Tom to take the time to write this, advice well taken.
We landed on the gravel bar and checked the depth of the water beforehand , it was 2 to 3 inches.max.
I do think the highest risk in this kind of flying is meeting another airplane coming the other way over the river in one of those turns.

Neato Larry! Shows what a versatile airplane the 182 is, even more so with your mods.

I get what some others are saying here, but the landings all look safe. Video Larry landing at an airport, photoshop out the airport and add gravel bar and I bet it looks the same. Some would say "safe" in one video and "unsafe" in another.

But, all in all, I enjoy watching Larry's videos.

Flying to me is all about pushing limits. Most of my friends think I’m insane just flying a small airplane from point A to B.
It’s all relative and I’m glad there’s guys like you out there doing your thing.
