The Garrett's on my Merlin IIIC have a sight glass to confirm oil. Also have a stainless threaded lid that has at least 3/4" of thread to close the reservoir.
I don't know all that many jet guys but Marks experience is the second I have heard of so it is not all that uncommon I guess. Can't be to careful or deliberate in operating these machines.

PT6 64 & 66 on the TBMs have a sight glass. Also the dipstick have an anti blow out valve so you wont loose your oil if you forget to reinstall your dipstick. Username Protected wrote: Erwin, my friend just got a Kodiak. It was a surprise that the pt6 did not have any sight glass.

The downside being... 1. The sight glass is supposedly not as accurate as the dipstick (though it's still my "goto" measuring method), and 2. The anti-blow-out valve is also the "you-can-only-add-oil-really-slowly-unless-you-want-it-to-get-backed-up-and-overflow-into-your-engine-compartment-valve"! Matt, what I do is I leave the dipstick in to open the check valve but only pull it out about 2 inch, just enough to use a paper funnel so I can pour in my quart of oil without making a mess. Matt, I use a long narrow necked funnel for adding to the 66D. The funnel holds the valve open enough that I can add reasonably fast. I usually only had 1/2 qt anyway. Your experience may be different.
