I've heard this rumor. It's not true. I stalled mine today and it burbles and drops straight ahead at 75kts and starts flying again. But my plane was built by a 3 time builder from a quick build over 9 years. I think all these crazy stories about this plane are from people that built a crooked plane in their garage from early slow build kits. The stall was no worse than Baron. I don't think this rumor is justified for well built planes.

Doug seems like a guy who knows what he's talking about. I don't think the IVP rep is based on lies. The stats are what they are. That doesn't mean it is not a rocket in the hands of the right pilot.

Never flown a Swift what happens? Seriously, why intentionally stall any high performance airplane routinely? Approach to stalls give you most all the benefit without the risk. (edited because people hated my post!)

Back in the day, it was required.
The Swift gave little warning, stall resembled the start of a snap roll and the rudder was barely enough to get it pointed straight ahead. There was vey good chance of 180 degree direction change. But my anus passing my Adam's apple could have given me a bad impression.
Swift owners enjoyed demonstrating that it seemed.

I read all that stuff. The Lancair IV is an easy to fly safe stable airplane, really don;t get the the issue. Nothing to sell here, its not for sell, just my Pirep.

I haven't done the math to verify Doug's claims, but I don't know him to be one for gross exaggerations. If his numbers are close to accurate, 30% of hulls having been in fatal accidents and a roughly 50% mortality rate from engine failures? That's a whole bunch of "Nope" in my book.

Enjoy it; it looks fantastic and the performance is literally amazing.

Just don't go kidding yourself that it's an "easy to fly, safe, stable airplane". By most accounts, it's not.

I think the big concern is ice. You will essentially be a test pilot when it happens.

Mount a go pro. I'd love to see it in action.

Many Lancairs were built in garages by C-172 pilots and they are not qualified to fly them. They fly no different than a Cirrus. I plan to avoid ICE and stay out of the weather. I maintain its a great airplane.

I full stall land my Lancair and it lands slower and takes up less space than my Baron, just read this post, total bunk,

I don't own a go pro, I invite anyone to come fly with me, I have no reason to make this stuff up, this is not a space ship, The Lancair IV is nice flying and safe airplane.

(Awesome) Bill Elliott has a turbine Lancair and speaks very VERY highly of it. This one is his second or third. He said he has around 10,000 hours tt .....a good bit of experience for not flying commercial.
I asked my friend/IA-A&P about one for me. He said "NO" and walked off :sad:
