There are some guys putting in 12:1 pistons in the Glasair and getting 375+ HP along with others putting on turbos as well. I'm trying to stay away from that temptation. There is one guy that just put in a IO720 along with supercharger in his Lancair. Talk about extreme. Probably around 600HP or so.

Nice engine but he better check the rigging on the inboard gear door.

Yeah, that's frigging impressive. I'd prefer not to have to exit the airplane to save my bacon. I'm kinda a chicken like that

I have never seen the plane but there are posters and artwork at the airport as a tribute to the success. Ken Johnson owned that GIII. I used to be based there back in the 90's when he did that trip. Nice guy. I remember seeing him at his hangar one day working on the airplane when I asked him "if you could change one thing about the airplane, what would it be?" He said "the brakes, because they're too small for the airplane". Apparently he went through pads like crazy, though that's not hard to understand why given how short N40 is. The GIII is a hot little machine on short final.

I have a cousin who built a Glasair II - I found the cockpit very cramped, (I'm 6' 4") - However, I got the impression that the seat location could be customized during the build process. How have you found the comfort of the cockpit?
As with many pilots, 90+ percent of my flying is single-pilot. This looks like a fantastic option!! I'm 5'9" / 180 lbs. Fit in it very nicely. The cabin is actually wider than a Bonanza. I will see how comfortable it is after doing a 4+ hour X-country. No inverted fuel and oil. Too old to do that stuff anymore. An occassional loop or roll will be the limit of my aerobatics.

I agree the brakes are too small. I will be operating out of 5000+ ft strips and I have the slotted flaps and long wingtips, so it should not be too much of an issue. If I have to change the brake pads every year that is ok with me.

I wanna stare and drool; will you bring this demon to Knoxville on November 1 for the big Max shindig? Planning on it. It is scheduled to go into the avionics shop October 1st for the G3X touch conversion. I am hoping they have it done for Nov 1.
