Shameless Piaggio plug… Hard not to love being above the bumps and weather, making 366 KTAS on only 500 lb/hr. This is ~10% more fuel efficient in lb/ktas than my Solitaire was at altitude (FL280 for it), while also 70 kts faster, 10k+’ higher, and 10 seats. What a great design. Attachment: IMG_7911.jpeg

I would like to lose the old analog Collins ADC and instruments for long term reliability and maintainability.

Possiby looks like a candidate for parting out. I see both props, a couple of engine overhauls and structural damage along most of the lower fuselage. If the gear's been touched, that's even worse for the Avanti. And, even if repaired, this incident will now be part of this bird's pedigree and affect its fully repaired value. If I were operating an Avanti, I would definitely make a ridiculous offer - for parts.

Serial 1046 (now for sale) suffered a gear-up several years ago and went through a significant repair. I’m told it took a big hit on value and the current owners got in pretty cheap. https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-repgen/api/Aviation/ReportMain/GenerateNewestReport/75428/pdfThe seller agent has not been very open about the damage which is concerning. Major Damage history—restored or repaired —on the P180 is probably hard to assess.

Hate to see any damage to the fleet...I think the one bird with a gear failure on landing is still sitting at KLUK from last year...

Is there some sort of control lock that would limit elevator movement?

Mike C. I vaguely remember being told there was a Piaggio that took off with flaps up and rotated at flaps-mid speed and the pilot didn't sufficiently accelerate the plane in ground effect. No idea if this is that plane or even if I remember the story correctly. Edit: Different aircraft. I heard of the flaps mishap before this accident occurred. It looks like the NTSB is doing a full investigation into this accident, where preliminary reports mention a mechanical failure. The aircraft had previously been involved in a deer strike that resulted in a runway excursion. So two major incidents for this aircraft it seems.
