My former employer spent a lot of money on making their -12's RVSM approved. No idea why, in the 5 years I was there I went above FL280 once, and it was just to say I did it. The airplane was the happiest at 250/260.

ADSB 1090 installed in a RVSM qualified airframe is all that’s needed in the US to be RVSM now. So TBM no longer needs a RVSM program if flying over US. Pilot takes RVSM course is all that’s needed.

I fly at 30-31 thousand feet 90+ per cent of the time. It's one of the best upgrades I've made. I fly a lot of longer trips and the fuel savings vs. time work out well. More importantly in thunderstorm season I have a lot better view of the weather. And a lot of times being above 28 means I'm not in the tops of clouds as I transit weather systems. When you go in the clouds the IS has to come on and I have to slow to 270 knots. There is virtually no traffic between 28-31 either. Most Tprops are below me and the airliners and jets are above. Another benefit is wind flexibility.
I didn't have RVSM when I bought my plane because Garmin hadn't STC'd the dual G600 install that the previous owner put in. When it became available I was excited as I'd spent a lot of time at 27 or 28, in the clag, slow with the IS on. Can't imagine going back.

With our tbm 850 also flying primarily at 30/31. Last trip an extra 1k would have gotten above clouds. Cabin with the extra 500ft setting probably close to 10.5 cabin. So it is high.

This is pretty typical for what I see when flight planning: Attachment: Screen Shot 2019-10-18 at 11.33.16 AM.png No time penalty (at least eastbound) and measurable fuel savings at FL310. Plus more ride reports, above more clouds and better glide range.

Mine is 9500 @ FL310. You get a lot more range as your fuel burn drops to 55-56 gph. Username Protected wrote: Tony, what is your cabin altitude at FL 300?
