Low wing and floatplane aren't made for each other. You can get a beautiful Rans S7 on amphibious floats for 60k. Then you have a light sport tail dragger, ski plane, float plane, whatever you want. With a proven good reputation.
A friend puts two 250# people in his with full tanks and takes it deep into Canada fishing.
Way more fun IMO.

I think you're comparing apples to oranges with those fabric formed units like the aircam or Lisa or Seawind. My feeling is they've designed and tested these to higher standards so they can become certified units in the future.
The higher price is also reflective of the additional options now being standard and the newer engine being installed.

Ok to be totally transparent, I also just put a deposit on one Friday.

I dont see that. The missions compare and I don't see Icon or Aircam getting certified beyond where they are or really why anyone would want them to be. Plenty of fabric planes are certified however.
