We will be bringing Rednose (one of the CAF Mustangs) into FLD on Sunday.
All week we will be selling rides in the mustang, which is a great opportunity to both fly in the Mustang, and to help support the CAF. The rides program, which operates under the 6802 exemption, has been a great opportunity for a lot of people to get a ride in the Mustang. Under the 6802 exemption, we currently have not been able to allow riders to have stick time, nor can we do aerobatics under the current exemption. (The exemption is required, as the FARs do not allow carriage of passengers or cargo in limited category airplanes for compensation or hire). We've had a lot of requests from pilots wishing to get some stick time in the Mustang.....so.....
The CAF has been able to get insurance such that we are now able to also offer instructional flights in the Mustang...where you actually get to fly the plane, and log the time.
Requirements are that you have at least a minimum of a private pilot ticket, and that you undergo a preflight briefing and post flight debriefing. You must be able to show your license, and the flight must be scheduled with one of the CFIs that is on the program for doing these instructional flights. (Currently, there are three of us).
If you are interested, you can sign up either at FLD at the airplane (we'll have a booth set up there), or at the CAF booth at OSH. I'll be at the Beer2OSH event Monday evening, as well.
Even if you aren't signing up for a flight, please stop by and say hello....
