May have a chance to be based at a conveniently located but short (750') strip. Mission would be solo (190 lb) or two person sightseeing/training flights of an hour or so. Looking for something that would be comfortable on a 750 foot strip. Taildragger or experimental OK. Budget under $50K. Thoughts on good options. I'd love a carbon cub ...

You could always build one.. it'll eventually cost you about 100K finished, but no hassles the rest of the ownership period!

Have you thought about a home built gyrocopter? Ive always wanted to be able to pull one out of the shop on a warm summer night and take off for joy rides from the front yard of my small acreage.

Scout or Maule M5 235.

I wouldnt mind using a short field some times but I wouldnt want to be based there all the time.
My first airstrip was 1000 or 1200 ft and I had a Champ at the time and then a M5-210 Maule, had a few close call when the winds were not favoring or I was not on my game.
Just no marging for error unless you get an ultralight or Cub.

This would be the fun plane. The travelling plane will be at a towered field with ILS.

Oops, didn't see that. RTFP

They show up at that price point, but very rarely.

Well used or original Super Cub can be found for $50k. Make sure you get a 150 HP or better for a 750' strip. Solo, about 200-250 feet is all you need. Here is a video of us going into a 900' strip not far from our house. Used about half for landing and the same for takeoff. Check out how close the houses have encroached on the strip.

Was a passenger in a Challenger. Seems like a great around the area aircraft that you can easily get in that budget.

Just Aircraft Highlander. Don't think you could get the super STOL for that $$ (super stol is their new bird) but a low-mid time Highlander is a possibility. Take a trip to the Just Factory in Walhala SC and have Troy give you a ride.http://www.justaircraft.com/news.php
