Most part 91 operators follow the manufacturers recommended program, but many 135 operations get their own program approved through their FSDO.
True that.

In Canada all pressurized turbine aircraft have to be on an approved maintenance program from TC, even part 91. My maint program basically follows Socata recommended maintenance for the TBM. Its not a bad thing as my aircraft is updated and whenever I sell I wont get dinged.
Commercial ops or part 135 because they fly more hours and have more aircraft can have some exemption or extended intervals based on their experience after inspections.
ex. PT6 engine overhaul is 3600 hrs, if at ovhl I open the engine and there is very little wear I could probably get an extension of 500 hrs on the next one. Multiply that for a commercial operator you can see after a number of years their tbo rise to 5-6000 hrs or even on condition on the large commercial jets.

BUT ... if embraer requires a landing gear overhaul every 5 years, and a windshield replacement every 10 years, and a non-destructive testing of the engine mounts every 4 years/2000 hrs ... you still MUST do it. The issue with twin turbine maintenance programs is not so much the routine, repetitive annual-ish inspections, but the big ticket required items that come up on a half-decade scale. Really easy to run up against mid 5-figure bills that way. I don't have knowledge of the Embraer plan. If they simply have an annual inspection with no further requirements ... that's awesome. But I suspect there are $urprises lurking after 5-10 years. Thats the case in the Pilatus and the G36. Still not like phase inspections on a Citation though

So you better like the plane you have, because you are going to own it for a looong time. There was a time when this may have made some sense, the collapse of the used jet market caused that time to pass.
