Great story!

Not too many of these folks left - hate to see them go.

That was great!

I had no idea we flew Spitfires for photo/recon. Especially alone and unarmed. Truly the greatest generation IMO.

Thanks for sharing.

That was a great story--had a nice reference to my Alma Mater--Stanford-- and was about WWII Photo recon. I'm from that era--didn't get to Europe--too young by a couple years--but I had a good buddy at work after the war who flew F5's (P38 photo)
forget what sqdn but he was very active--lots of missions--got shot down in spring
of '44--parts of his plane flew off and knocked down the German who shot him down!!
Met the guy who shot him down afterword--they both laughed about it--he said!!
He spent rest of the war as a "criegie"--prisoner. He always talked about being in photo recon in group run by one of Pres Roosevelt's sons--forget which--said they got treated
royally--chance to go to Farnbourough--RAF test area--he got to fly most British and some captured aircraft like FW190-Spitfie-Typhoon etc. Interesting guy--probably gone now!!
