Maybe if he would have allowed the autopilot to land by itself the plane wouldn't have kept on calling the captain a retard right at the flare.

Looked like the Captain was getting a bit frustrated with the First Officer when he kept messing up the read back.

He was ready to give him the 'ol :beechslap: had there not been 10 cameras in there.

They had 10 cameras recording the approach and landing, yet try using your iPad or Bose noise cancelling headsets in the back and they tell you to switch them off so the plane won't fall out of the sky!

Except for that pesky yoke thing in the way....

If you can't cross your legs during an approach, it's not a comfortable cockpit.

No experience in any Airbus, but I will say that certification performance is so uniform across the free-world transports that they can all do pretty much the same things. I'm very confident that all the Airbii will takeoff with one engine failing at V1, will fly at reasonably high altitudes and "make fuel" with one out, and will operate well albeit at lower altitudes with any 2 of 4 out. All will probably survive 3 out of 4 out, provided they have time to dump fuel, and using "special procedures" (usually not in the book) for the landing.

In the 747, one engine out isn't even an emergency, and I assume the 340/380 are the same. That has ended up in two cases of 747s loaded to maximum, losing an engine on takeoff (after V1) and continuing on to the destination on 3. One was LAX to London (BA), the other was Frankfurt to Tokyo (JAL). Both were a little slower, and they weren't able to make the planned altitude, but both arrived with MORE fuel than planned. Some idiots got all excited over that, and the press had a field day with BA, but I fully approve, and would have done the same. There have been others.

The same video is on YouTube and can be seen in HD there (720p) (link from FlightAware):

http://youtu.be/UDMDuRczDI0

The pilot is Jürgen Raps; he was the chief pilot of Lufthansa until his retirement. The flight shown in this video was his retirement flight (FRA-SFO-FRA).

There was a short feature on German TV on this; here is some footage from his return trip to Frankfurt two days later:

P.S.: I tried to embed these videos, but that remains one of the unsolved mysteries in life for me. Yes, I found the How-To instructions, I just cannot seem to make them work.

Well, that would explain the fire trucks and why the cockpit was rigged up with 12 HD cameras.

Flew out of Frankfurt yesterday. At the Z concourse, they had a row of alternating 747s and A380s docked. I figured it was about a billion and a half worth of aircraft lined up on that one concourse.

… and to think … “a billion and a half” used to be considered some serious coin.

Interesting how the FO messed up the read-backs a couple of times and the captain was like :bang:.. We all make mistakes, even an A380 Pilot

Don't know about Frankfurt Tokyo, but LAX to London only made it to Manchester as I recall, due to concerns over fuel remaining. Quite a firestorm with FAA, CAA (UK) and BA. (gotta love all those initials)
