One of the guys at my local airport has an experimental jet that (according to him) uses the same engine as the T-37 "dog whistle". I was surprised to see that the top of the green arc on the airspeed indicator was marked at 160 MPH. That's not much faster than my Bo! He also remarked that a roundtrip flight to another nearby airport (30 nm away) cost him about $200.

I think if I owned a jet, I would want to fly faster than that - especially at that cost of operations. Oh well, at least it sounds cool. Any ideas as to which model it is????

There's nothing, repeat, NOTHING cool about the sound of a tweet engine.

Don't see any gear doors... Is that a jet with fixed gear? That will slow it down.

Looks like Piper gear on an inefficient airframe to me. To each his own I guess.

I believe that I saw the gear retract upon climbout. But it does look like it was taken off a Piper aircraft.

I don't know what it is, but it sure looks like fun.

Not sure why you would build one when you can buy a 340-knot Iskra that is built like a tank for $50k or less.

I have hearing loss from 4-5 months of flying Tweets. Fun, but no thanks anymore.

This plane appeared at Oshkosh about 20 years ago as a prototype of a kit jet. It never made it beyond that, and I did not know the airframe still existed.

I do not remember the builder/developer, but can probably scrape up photos of it. I'll look through old negatives and see what I can come up with.

Instead of ID'ing the jet, can we identify the mop on the fueler? Is that just a sloppy mullet or is that on purpose? Wow.

I have 1200+ hours in the Tweet...remarkably I still have my upper frequency range hearing. The Tweet engine is incredibly durable with its thick centrifugal flow compressor blades, but low thrust, slow to accelerate, and VERY fuel inefficient. I don't imagine he gets very far between fuel stops.

That is the plane's owner, and the other guy is a line guy and the gal, well, she's with the pilot (must be the hair).

I worked line service in college, and we had a military refueling contract. We would get those damn Tweets in by the DOZEN and ear plugs + muffs wouldn't block at all of that noise. They took 265-275 gallons each, and they were slow over-wing fuelers (vs. single-point hookups) and we would play rock-paper-scissors in the line shack to see who would take care of 'em. Not much fun when it was 100 degrees and you were looking at a couple hours of fueling...

I'm sure they would be a ton of fun to fly, but I think they only got ~2 hour missions on those 275 gallons. No thanks! (as an owner)
