Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

I just joined, and I've been doing lots of browsing on the board so far, and I think I'll keep coming back! This has to be one of the most active and well managed Owner Boards I have a come across, which is a great thing IMO.

I currently reside straight north of DFW (immediately under the approach path for RR 17C/R) and get to listen to the jets coming and going of all hours of the day. I work for General Motors, and I've been transferred quite a few times in the last several years, and that has got me thinking about better ways to travel across the US to see my family.

I don't currently have my PP, or a plane (much less a Bo!) but I am planning on starting the PP lessons this summer and was looking for advice in what to look for in a CFI/school. There are several in the area, but I don't know what I should be looking for in them. I have choices in market of full-on schools, what I would say are 1-man schools, as well as clubs which have CFI's that will teach on club aircraft. My current plan was to talk to each school, and then after I narrowed down the list, do one of their "discovery flights" to help me decide. Any other pointers on what to look for in a CFI would be greatly appreciated. I've noticed there a quite a few DFW area members on the board (several from KADS it seems) so any recommendations and warnings would also be great!

Thanks again and safe travels to everyone!

Advice:
Hold onto your money.
Don't give your money upfront.... Pay as you go.
That is until you are comfortable with the school the planes e instructors the owners etc...

Hi Jeff,

Welcome a-Board! :D

We must be neighbors because I am north of DFW as well right under the final approach course for 18L in Lewisville.

I hangar in Denton and would be glad to introduce you to some of the pilots and CFIIs up there and if you like you can visit the CSOB Headquarters/man cave hangar.

PM me if and when you might be interested in meeting.

Mike

Hey Jeff,

I am relatively new to beechtalk as well. I am currently taking lesson from a flight school at KFWS (Spinks) in south Fort Worth. Great CFI down here. If you are interested in a school down here let me know and I will give you a name. Spinks is a towered airport and has great ATC. He lets me pay as I go and provides a cash discount.

I am loving it. Just completed my first solo today :bugeye: . It was great I can't wait to go up again.

The advice I was given by a good friend, and fellow Beechtalker, was to save up enough money for 20 hours. Go fly and see if you like it. If you do great, if you don't then you haven't invested to much money or time.

Jeff

Jeff, it sounds like you're in Lewisville. Go west on FM1171 until within sight of I35W and turn left on Cleveland Gibbs Road. Marcair is a very active flight school at Northwest Regional Airport (52F).
