Hi Everyone,

I have been visiting BeechTalkfor the past couple of months, and I figured it was time to stop lurking in the shadows.

My name is Adam Conine and I live in San Antonio, TX.

I caught the aviation bug by pure chance. I married into it! My wife spent as much time couped up in the back seat of small airplanes as I did in the back of the family station wagon.

I took my first GA ride when I was 23 (I am 29 now) in the right seat of a Beech 18 my father-in-law owned. I was hooked as soon as he fired up those radial engines. Well, actually I was hooked after he fired up the first one, but the second one cemented my new found passion.

Fast forward to the present. I have been working on my PPL for about two years now. Life, work, money, and now kiddos have greatly delayed the process, but I hope to finish up sometime in early fall.

I do my training in an Aviat Husky A-1B, and I am blessed to spend many hours a month in a gorgeous G36 traveling around Texas on business.

I am glad to be here, I hope to get to know as many of y'all as I can, and I look forward to continuing the learning process here on BeechTalk.

Welcome to BT Adam. Just this afternoon I went to San Antonio and back. Where are you based?

Great to have you on the board and looking forward to hearing more about your progress.

Thanks for the welcome, Tyler.

When I fly out of San Antonio, I usually fly out of KSAT, but most of my training and business flying originates 60 miles south of town in Kenedy, TX at 2R9.

Welcome to BT!

I would be anxious to finish my training hoping to move to the left seat of that G36 as PIC. :D

Hi Adam, yes a beech18 will do it to you. Who is your father in law, N number of his 18, does he still have it? Any pics of it? This web site is very addictive too.

Hi Dave,

His name is Ron Hyde, and he had a 1959 E18S. Unfortunetely, she is not around anymore. A gentleman in the midwest purchased her 3 or 4 years ago. Although I have no idea where the plane is currently based. I was very sad to see it go.

Here is a pic at her former home base.

Definitely, Drew. I am very fortunate that my wife has never even batted an eyebrow about the expense associated with learning to fly.

Now if I could just finish up my license, I could really put her to the test and find out just how much money is too much money to spend on aviation. :D

Adam,

What's your favorite FBO at KSAT? I went to Lackland AFB yesterday, but that was a one off thing. Pretty soon I'll be going to KSAT a lot as I have family moving to San Antonio in a few weeks. Got any PIREPS, contacts, recommendations, etc.?

Thanks and keep us all informed as to how you move along, and don't be afraid to post questions as they come up....and they certainly will.

Tyler,

When we fly out of KSAT we mainly use Signature. Although if I were coming in to stay for a couple days I might consider San Antonio Aviation. They are located at KSSF which is 13nm south of KSAT. Fuel is a around $5.50 instead of $7.00 and overnight fees are quite a bit cheaper too.

What kind of recommendations are you looking for? I have an opinion on everything. :)

Is that Glen's brother? I'm based at Glen's airport in the Dallas metroplex.

Hi Don,

Yup, they are brothers. In fact, I believe Glen is heading south this weekend for my daughter's first birthday. Hopefully we will be doing a little flying.
