Dear fellow aviators: I am still a student pilot, flying rental Cherokees. I came across a blog post ( http://gmflightlog.blogspot.com/2011/01 ... urday.html), which had a picture of Cherokee with A LEFT DOOR, which intrigued me. But it turned out to be an A23 Sundowner. So I thought I'd investigate the topic, and here I am. I must admit that I looked at Bonanzas with interest as well, but anything affordable is from early 1950s, with the single-yoke configuration. In any case, for me it is way too early to think about. I need to pass a checkride first. -- Pete

I flew a Piper Archer II in a club, nice plane, did everything I asked of it. I wanted better avionics so I set out in search of a two door low wing plane that had plenty of room and would provide a stable instrument platform for the rating I was working on, The Beechcraft Sundowner fit the bill. Best of luck on obtaining the private pilot certificate. Remember, have fun, you will hit learning plateaus like the rest of us did, you will also experience those moments when the light comes on and you just get it. You did nothing different from the previous flight but today it came together.......one of the best parts of learning to fly. Welcome to Beech Talk. There is also the Beech Aero Club that provides great info on the Beech aircraft. http://www.beechaeroclub.org/

There was a recent member at PoA who did just that: bought a Comanche about 20 hours into training, and he still flies it 30 years since. But I noticed that my ideas about airplanes seem to change pretty quickly as I learn ins and outs of it. I started with Luscombes but then I figured that LSAs were dead in the water. No flying at night, ever?! Please. Then I thought that if I were to fly a real airplane, might as well do it right. So looked at Mooneys, but the sticker shock made me thinking that perhaps single yoke is not that bad... At this time the only thing that is certain is that I do not know what I want. My list of planes to research includes Skipper _and_ Musketeer _and_ Bonanza (a very old and tired one). Thanks for the welcome, -- Pete
