The iteration from White Knight One to White Knight Two, and Space Ship One to Two is significant! http://www.virgingalactic.com/overview/spaceships/These aircraft/spacecraft are indeed "cool". Looking over the Virgin Galactic website I noticed this statement: "For nearly 30 years, Scaled Composites, the designers and builders of Virgin Galactic's space launch system, has been responsible for some of the world's most innovative experimental aircraft and has a safety record that is second to none." Didn't SC have a rocket engine explosion that killed three workers? As much as I admire Burt Rutan's out of the box designs, I can't see how one could call their safety record "second to none".

If your peer group is 'other private manned space flight enterprises', that claim is not so crazy.
