I got a demo ride in one a few years ago at the Cedar Mills Seaplane event....unfortunately... no stick time. About 1/4 of the wing gets submerged on a water landing.... very odd. I cannot believe the manufacturing cost of this thing exceeded $100K. How can you not believe that? A Van's RV-10 that you build in your garage will cost $140k with a single engine, plain avionics, fixed gear, and nothing else. A new Bo is $600k. A new Baron is over $1 Million. The engines and propellers alone are over $100k. The next time you cannot believe something try pricing out some Beechcraft parts from RAPID. THat will really blow your mind.

The coolness factor comes from the fact that it does not have pylons/sponsons on the wings, has six seats, and is a modern twin design that is economical to fly. For 16 GPH you get a nice twin. The nearest competitor is a 50-year-old Grumman that is in a completely different class and will cost you $1AMU per hour to run.

Because they were built in the former Soviet block - labor and parts for these manufacturers are nowhere near the same as the US. Simple cost of life angle.
