Hello everyone

My father, Paul Marsh, has been encouraging me to join here and I decided to listen to him for the first time in my life. I'm a student studying Aviation Maintenance Technology at Western Michigan University and unfortunately do not own an aircraft of any sort, let alone one as nice as a Beechcraft.

Currently I spend my free time racing bikes and wrenching on my oddball sports car, and I recently came to the realization that the aerodynamic and turbocharger system research that I've been doing with the car is directly applicable to my future career in aviation.

I have secret plans to build a Just Aircraft Highlander once I have a stable post-college job and am living somewhere with a garage. As a low-time private pilot I'm a bit intimidated by the larger planes and something with a stall speed lower than I can ride my bike sounds more my style.

That's all, I'm glad to be here and look forward to learning more about aviation from everyone.

What type of aviation career are you aiming for?

Paul - I'm interested in an aviation technical writing career after graduation. I'll have the option of getting my A&P certification in the course of my degree but I've known many aircraft mechanics, none of them seemed particularly enamored with their job. That last sentence notwithstanding, I'm generally fairly good at succinctly conveying my point and that, coupled with my interest in engineering makes technical writing a good fit. My university is also in the process of creating a master's program in Aviation Maintenance and Engineering but I'd prefer to avoid the classroom for a while once I'm finished with school.

Welcome. If there is any question about whether you will avail yourself of the opportunity to get your A&P certification, the answer should be clear. Definitely do it! The certificate will be of considerable value no matter what path you take in the aviation world, and you will never have a better opportunity to acquire the certificate.
