Hello. I'm L. R. Du Broff (call me "L.R.")

I live in the Orlando area and hangar my BE S-35 at the Orlando-Apopka airport (used to be called "Orlando Country").

I have been a CFI for more than 40 years, and have been specializing in the Bonanza family for more than half that time.

I work from my hangar, so if anyone wants to drop in for a Coke or a bottle of cold water, visitors are welcome. I'm not always there, but you can confirm via the email address in my profile. Just drop me a message and I'll respond with my phone number.

Looking forward to enjoying this "family."

L.R.,
Thanks for joining this "family".

I haven't been to your airport since it stopped being "Orlando Country" with its runway that was the width of my wingspan. I know it's come a looong ways since then.

Welcome.

Welcome.

Actually, the runway back in the old days, was almost 200 ft. wide. The center 28 feet were paved. There was a drop-off into The Pit at the south end.

You wouldn't recognize the place now. Every stick of the old buildings was flattened by bulldozers. The airport was re-laid out. The paved part of the runway was widened and lengthened, so King Airs have no problem. There's a PAPI at each end, so no adrenalin roaring around through your body for a night arrival. The runway lights actually work. There's a paved parallel taxiway, with perpendicular taxiways leading away from the parallel, to form "streets" for the hangars. All hangars are new, individually owned, and constructed to standards that provide a nice, uniform appearance.

I have been told that there is a GPS approach in the works.

I run my flight training business out of my hangar, along with a non-aviation business, and it's really a pleasant environment for going to work every day.

Stop in and visit us!

My business partner has a Cherokee in Hangar 98 and we just moved our F33A over to KORL to be closer to our office. I'll look you up next time I'm there.

I'm in Hangar 58. Not there every day, but if the hangar door is open, I'm there.

I'll be there for a little while today; I'm going to make a quick round trip to Marathon Key, so I'll be in and out of the hangar, before and after the trip.

Might be in the upstairs office, just take a look. Looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Larry,

Glad to hear your still instructing. I started my instrument with you back in the early '90's when you were working out of Saddlebrook and commuting to FL. I have to say, out of all the pilots I have flown with over 30 years, your knowledge and skills impressed me the most. I have owned 4 Bonanzas since that time and can honestly say if I had not had my first Bonanza ride with you, I would not understand the passion for them. Matter of fact, after passing my pilots license with Peggy Nauman as many years ago, I watch her leave in her Bonanza wondering what all the fuss could be about the odd looking plane she was taxing out to the runway.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and I hope I get to fly with you again.

P.S. I am also a newbie to this forum.

Kind regards....Ken Steel
