Looks like a single engine Avanti I like the looks and the air stair. I am betting $1.5 complete, and available in 2012.

I wish just one of these companies could do something.

I've always wanted a canard.

Come hunting here in October, at the juncture of the Mississippi and Missouri Flyways; all the canard's you can call in and shoot, if you can talk 'em into giving up.

The Velocity seems to be a great plane - modern design and aerodynamically clean.
Why don't we see more flying?

See quite a few around Santa Monica. I think the single best thing that could happen to GA is a much much cheaper high quality turbine. It still amazes all my non-pilot friends how little you get in terms of real travel advantage for hundreds of thousands of dollars. We all love it so the marginal benefits to us are huge, but if a turbine cost 100k, wouldn't there be a lot more air-taxis and charters, and new types of aircraft? They could then compete on price with the commercial airlines and save our smaller airports.

I had a Velocity RG Elite back in 1994. It was a good plane that flew 180 knots on 13 GPH.

The big problem with all of the Velocitys is baggage - You can take none with you if 4 people are in the plane and even with 2 people the baggage has to sit on the rear seats.

I don't know about flying them in the ice. I would want TKS on one with the type of flying I do now.

You have to build it yourself, and by the time you build an XL with modern panel and 300 hp, you probably have 300 AMU invested. There are usually a fair number at OSH.

There are some performance quirks, too, mostly that the lack of flaps with the canard design tends to make them a bit hot on landing. Cabin's a little low but nice and wide - I have to recline the seat to keep my head off the roof.

Good airplanes, though - fast, efficient, virtually impossible to stall, extremely strong structurally. Deltahawk uses a Velocity as test bed for their 200hp diesel. That's a winning combination IMO.

I don't think it'll come in anywhere close to $1.5MM -- pretty sure a new -67 is close to $1MM (I suppose I should be saying 1,000 AMU) just by itself. The guys at Epic were using factory remanufactured -67s and still coming in around $1.2MM for the whole airplane, and that company's wheels fell off even thought that seemed like a great airplane. I sat in a few and toured the factory but never got a chance to fly one. I completely agree that somebody ought to be able to come up with a compact, lightweight, cheap TP, and there have been several new entries to the market in the past year or two ... maybe that'll help.

If it is certified it will be $1.5+ and will probably be the worst thing the Swing's ever decided to do since it will never sell.

If it is an experimental it probably could be built for $500-$800k and will still be the worst thing they ever did since nobody will spend that kind of money for a plane that will be instantly worth $300k and uninsurable when you want to get rid of it.

I did not see anything about pressurization either.

The project is a non-starter in my opinion.

Buy a used TBM or turbine Duke for that matter.

Keep in mind the impact of liability insurance on such a project; if you could get rid of THAT, then you might have a reasonably priced advanced aircraft.

Agreed.

If this project ever makes it past a few units built, I'll be impressed.

That's just the way G.A. works.

That is what Hawker Beech should be developing instead of whatever they doing. Maybe the Cirrus personal jet will get off the ground and be successful.

You mean products liability? I'd guess $1/4m to $3/4m per year if the claims stay low - not too bad really...

I visited the factory in Sebastian, FL and flew one in a demonstration ride. WOW! That is one sweet flying machine! You can hold the stick all the way back and it just bobs like a porpoise (if you add power, you climb while bobbing, if you reduce power, you descend while bobbing). I guess the only way to stall it, is to take a dive and then pull back very quickly. Also, having the engine behind you, gives a nice quiet, smooth ride. If I had the time and money, this would be my dream plane to build and fly.
