Yea I knew HCS 4 and 5 were reservists but wasn't sure if there was also an AD contingent that did that kind of flying. I flew with a guy at my last airline who was AD Army then transferred to the USNR in SD to fly with an HCS squadron. The videos/stills he showed us from Afghanistan and Iraq were simply incredible. What a ridiculous mission those guys have.

Do you know Dan Boston? He's 32...flew Seahawks but I believe he is with VT4 now down at Pensacola. I went to college with him.

Did you do the B-course for the Bone as well as the B-2? I never quite understood how the guys who go to TPS get "checked out" in so many aircraft....or are they more familiarization rides, etc.

Disclosure: I'm an airline pilot with a civilian background but have lot of friends who flew/fly in the military (AD and Guard/Reserves)...so I still am allowed to ask dumb questions from time to time on military matters. I did have a slot in the 121st FS at Andrews (DCANG) until the flight doc decided I was mildly color-deficient in my eyes. But I still live vicariously through my pointy-nosed friends.

PS - I think someone above (Jeff maybe) thought that Viper was a Thunderbird paint scheme.

I fly a K35 Bonanza (N12711), a Twin Beech H18 tailwheel (N87711), and a Bell 47G helicopter (N91711). My son Warren flies a Cessna 140A tailwheeler (N1116D). The Bo and the 140A are at KANP. The Bell is at W18. And the Twin Beech is at KFCI in Richmond, Virginia. I also own two hot air balloons.

I have been a member of many organizations that deal with aviation and Beechcraft including The Beechcraft Heritage Museum, ABS, WBS, MABS, NEBG, AOPA, EAA, VAA, QB, SEBS,.....

I love to fly, I love to restore, I love to help fellow pilots and Beechcraft owners. I also love to learn and improve myself.

The Bo came with 12711 or "711" - I found it easy with the controllers - and I find it easy not to forget "711" when on the radio. You know - got to make it easy for some of us (like me!!).

Ah, sorry no Thunderbird here.

As for the "checkout", I actually was a B-1 pilot before Test Pilot School so I kept that qualification and I went through the full B-2 course (accelerated at my own pace) at Whiteman AFB. The F-16 and T-38 were sign offs through TPS. I think what you are referring to are what we call "qual eval" rides where we usually fly an air vehicle once. We had the opportunity to fly over 50 different types of airplanes, helicopters, gliders and even the Good Year blimp during TPS and for that, I am very thankfull.

I think I saw another Beechtalk member who is an astronaut....I'm hoping for that for next venture!

Hello all, John Bailey here. I live in Sioux Falls and am the proud owner of a turbo-normalized V35A. I moved up several months ago from Brand C. I just got her back last Thursday from installing a JPI 930 EDM. I just need to find a rigger now and hopefully be done for awhile. I enjoy the board and all the information contributed by the members.

John, that's just beautiful. Who did your upholstery? And do you know what kind of foam they used for the seats?

Wow, the garmin stack is great, as is the panel mount 496 below the JPI EDM-930.

As for the rigging, I'd recommend you look @ some of the recent posts. There is apparently a gentleman in Oklahoma, by the name of Glenn Biggs, that is master.
