What a shameful thing to say. I'm assuming you just got caught up in the spirit of the argument here, but really, Ed, this is going to far.

He made that choice when he climbed in the plane. Why don't you feel bad for the poor guy that got killed?

The "theory" and I thank God I haven't had to test it, is that you land in the water just off the beach. Less likely to hit anyone and still not in deep water. Hopefully, survivable. Granted, my Sundowner has a MUCH lower stall speed and the 4 or 5 banner tow planes that have ditched while I've lived here have an even slower stall speed (all survived).
All that being said, this time of year, I might have shot for the beach as well. Not very heavily populated. Packed sand. Pretty good idea during the winter. Tragedy that it didn't work out in this case.
I've seen pics of this, anybody know how the planed ended up getting towed out of the water??
Norton they picked it up with a bachoe and put it on a trailer.

But this poor bastard is jogging down the beach and gets hit by an airplane flown by a "selfish a**hole" trying to save his own skin and you're like "fuk him", "who cares".
WTF? Weather is foreseeable. Mechanical failure is not. Your argument would sway me if the pilot did his own maintenance, said sh** ba**s, this prop is about to come off, and flew anyways. If that was the case then he would be flying with reckless disregard and I would agree with you and Rob.

Mechanical failure is 100% foreseeable. We train for it. It's assumed you will have a mechanical failure every time you fly.
If the airplane exploded mid air and wreckage landed on the jogger I'd agree with you.
The pilot flew the airplane into the jogger.

WTF? a fellow pilot doing the best he could in a bad situation,is a "selfish a**hole".how can you say that, when you dont know all the facts? it is tragic for the guy and his family, but is was an accident. so what, should we just call him a selfish pos and just put him in jail?

You're doing like the pilot the aimed for a jogging lane and you're allowed to do that. But you wouldn't get my vote on a jury.

I can say that because there's a million square miles of wide open, deep blue ocean right next to where he crashed.

He didn't have to land on the beach. He could've landed in the ocean. He should've landed in the ocean. He's a dick.
Not only that but there is an airport on Hilton Head Island. Hilton Head is small. I've landed there.
I would even agree with you if he was over a heavily populated area with no ocean and he killed someone. In that case, %#$@ happens.
But he's over millons of square miles of ocean and chooses to land on Hilton Head beach??
I could even agree with you if he chose to land on some remote beach and "holy cow, amazingly there's some guy there", what a fluke!
He landed on Hilton Head beach. Have you ever been there? Probably the only beach on the East Coast more crowded is in S. Florida.

Blinded pilot in glider coming down.
Jogger unfortunately in wrong place at wrong time by chance.
Accidents happen.
God rest the soul of the poor guy. Prayers for his family. No, pilot flying his plane in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who's being un-civil? We're arguing on the internet.
