An Atlas Airlines cargo flight from Chile to Miami lost a panel at the Miami International Mall parking lot. I understand the piece was 17 feet in length and reports say it came from a 747 on appraoch to runway 9 at MIA. http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI142981/

Otherwise how did it survive the trip from Chile? Pretty crazy. All airplanes should be grounded. Yeah that will fix everything. Phil

Having dealt with the FAA for 25 years we always joked that the wings could be held on with duct tape during an inspection from the FAA, and as long as the date code on the tape was not expired everything would be okay. That's truly how they operate, simply paperwork!
In reality the tape they were using was probably aluminum high speed, or 600 mph tape.
