Well, I hope it has better handling qualities than the turban 4P. Many of those have crashed.

hey russ

now you should know that aerodynamics don't crash planes, pilots crash planes (sort of the guns don't kill people, people kill people theory)

The FAA says that the mandatory pilot training for the MU-2 is working. Maybe that is needed for the lancair IV?

still any plane that goes fast is very cool.

I have a friend at Sedona that has the 4P with the twin turbo 550. It is a rocket, cruises at 250 kts. Very tiny cabin, not very conformable for long flights but you sure get there fast.

Russ,

It is a completely new airframe. No resembalance, no shared parts. The VSo is 61 knots on the Evolution. It has a glide ratio of around 17:1 IIRC. That is more than a 172. These two items alone make it about 5 times safer than a IV or IVP.

Very nice handling and flying. I would like to build one with the new FADEC Lycoming. Still can cruise in the lower 200's, balls to the wall 270. The turbine is over 300 (literature claims 330)

Cool turbine and specs, but does anyone find this airframe just plain ugly? Maybe I'm in the minority, but other than the wings and PT6, I find nothing sexy about this airplane.

Maybe add at least one or two more diminishing windows like a Cessna 421 would help balance it. But, I do choose function first, aesthetics 2nd.

I flew the prototype, and did a pilot report for Kitplanes...

http://www.lancair.com/Main/pdf_documen ... nesMag.pdf

This airplane is nothing like the Lancair IV... It handles well, is comfortable, low stall speed, and very nice handling... It is a very capable airplane for the right market....

I look at it more as form and function!

It kinda reminds me of the Eclipse 400

The round windows are a little ugly. I wonder what they feel like from inside.

However, this thing is incredibly capable and makes a lot of other choices look like a model T.

From the video, it looked like the visibility was pretty good out the side windows, however the blind spot of the wide "A Pillar" (that's what they're called on a car, not sure about a plane) looks pretty substantial.

I really like the location of the gear switch and indicator lights in that panel.

Doesn't seem to slow it down any, plus as an experimental you could cut the retractable one off your Bo and mount it on the Lancair!
