EVs suck ass. The speed limit with a discharged one is zero.

I would think even diehard EV-haters could agree that Mike is directionally correct on this. There isn't a Bugatti on this planet that could beat our little 182 on a cross-country run. I'd love to park a 911 in the garage but I'm not going to sacrifice my aviation budget to do so.

Anyway, how are those aircraft inventory levels looking today?

Yes. But I can refuel pretty much anywhere in the country in 2 minutes and have 600+ miles of range again. Never understand why people buy things that objectively give them less capability.

Just like with airplanes there are different missions. I've got a big diesel truck for towing, a nice family hauler SUV, and a little electric runabout that will never see 600 miles in a week so I care exactly zero where it gets charged on a road trip because it will never go on one. Its never seen a charger that I don't own either at home or at work.

Its more fun to drive, faster, quieter, zero maintenance, and essentially negligible cost to operate vs my other vehicles.

Electric vehicles may not fill the niche that you want in a vehicle but saying they "suck ass" is just a stupid statement and makes you look like a dufus.

Plus if I ever need to drive 600 miles I'm taking my airplane ;)

Is that Mike McMillin in the right seat?

Mark and I wholeheartedly agree about certain exotic Italian vehicles! :)

But... My EV - Tesla Model Y Performance - is awesome:
- 0-60 in 3.1 seconds
- Fits 4 comfortably
- Has a tow hitch as well as a roof rack and lots of storage
- Recharges entirely via my home solar so there is zero incremental cost for "fuel"
- Has not been in for maintenance in 4 years except once they came to me and changed out my air conditioning filters, and I have had to go to the windshield place after a rock got me on the freeway.
- Current cost (new) is ~$38k+ (reasonably equipped though there are options)

Compare to Ferrari 458 as an example:
- 0-60 in 3.4 seconds
- Fits 2. Comfortable once you're in.
- You can get a briefcase in it.
- Cost of fuel is... well, 13-17 mpg.
- Current cost (used) ~$200k+ depending on options, mileage, etc

Personally, I focus mostly on the first line. :D

In all seriousness, like any vehicle it depends on the job being done, but for those of us who take longer trips by air anyway, it's a great car. Nothing inherent to the Tesla - most advantages are just being electric.

Well Jon, since you put it out there…

Ferrari Pista 0- 60 2.85 seconds
Fits 2, don’t care about luggage
Cost of fuel is less than the increase in electrical at your home to charge yours.
Here is the kicker Jon. Cost …445,000. Current Value 625,000

And yeah sorry I think EVs are…destined for the dustbin of history just like the were at the turn beginning of LAST century.not because they are bad cars….because they have bad infrastructure, and that’s not changing ..

Not sure …it’s a pic of the only installed EIS in a Piaggio to date. I’m in line for May.

Nope, not even in CA with high electricity rates. Here in IN, my cost is 3 cents per mile for energy. Gas is at least 5 times as much.

The great thing about EV + plane is that long distance EV infrastructure isn't an issue, you got another conveyance for that. When I do charge away from home, my car loads up in 18 minutes, so not really that much more than the gas pump (BTW, it takes at least 4 minutes to fill a Ferrari tank). Charging infrastructure is getting better, 1000 new chargers added every week roughly.

I spend way less time charging my car than gas owners do filling their gas tanks. Just plug it in at home. Takes 5 seconds. And no extra miles to do it or standing out in the weather or getting smelly hands.

My car can also power my house for 2+ days as a bonus.

EVs are not going away despite what insecure gas car owners hope for.

Mike C.

I have a customer that is fairly tall, so we were considering an Avanti, until I happened to walk in Broadies at FTW a couple of weeks ago and saw one sitting in the hangar covered in dust. I asked the shop manager about it, and he said it had been there most of the last 12 months waiting on some parts that were unobtainable. Given the customer's past experience with plane that has been in the shop more than its been out in the last three years, we elected to pass on that one.
As for cars, I owned a Porsche back in my younger days. I still remember some of the shop invoices. I don't need to impress anyone anymore, so I'm all about comfortable transportation these day.

There’s THE problem…..he took it to Broadies.

Love Porsche. Beautiful cars.

I rarely drive over 100 miles/day, so Im thinking more and more that an EV might fit my bill.

Why would I be insecure about something that can be bought at a huge discount now?

The market has spoken Mike, EV sales are through the floor. No one wants them.

Sorry for the thread drift ….I won’t comment any further on this I promise.

Back in the late 90s I think it was car and driver pitted a Mooney 201 against a Ferrari 550. The guys with the Mooney took off and it was about 200 miles away but long story short the Mooney guys got there over an hour before the Ferrari. And the Ferrari guys we’re driving like the cannonball run as well. There’s pretty much no car that could be any airplane. Unless you’re putting a Bugatti against a J3 cub with a bad cylinder or something.

Now add in depreciation at 25% last year, 45% in the last 3 years.
