Super Constellation N6937C was registered to Constellation Productions Inc. in September 2024. The aircraft had been owned by Save-A-Connie/Airline History Museum since December 1986.

They've been actively working on it the last few weeks. Looks like they brought in a real maintenance crew to do the work, which was desperately needed.

Best I could tell, over the years, the well-meaning volunteers at the museum just didn't have the skills, ability, time or money to get it flying again.

I've also heard the museum had some issues using non-certified mechanics (many of whom had been repairmen for airlines back in the day, but never got an actual A&P, so could only work under a repair station, etc.) on various projects and that got them in hot water with the FSDO for unlicensed work.

I assume Travolta's team cut signature a nice check to get access to the hangar (which is the subject of ongoing eviction proceedings, etc.). The museum itself is, well, probably just dead at this point.

I was there back in November just across the ramp. They pulled her out and fired up all four engines for a test run. It didn't appear to go perfectly, but they sure did look and sound good.

Not really related but I always wondered how the MATS Connie that flew around the US in the 1990s ended up transferring to Pratt and Whitney then donate and moved to South Korea?

Does John Travolta have a shop that works on his airliner airplanes?

If Travolta has too much money, it won't be long before he doesn't.

He can't take it with him so spending it on keeping a piece of aviation history airworthy is just fine with me. :pilot:

Wait, the money is for something else other than aviation?

He read your Citation V posts about operating costs and said "nah, I need something expensive".

Seriously, good on him. If I were blank-check, tres comas rich I'd be trying to restore an old Lancaster.

That's got to be a lot simpler and easier than a Connie.

When we had EC-121 Constellations at Korat. there were some concerns we would be accused of chemical warfare due the them spraying oil on everything they flew over.

Has anyone priced a P51 Mustang lately? Chuck Hall just sold his and some rich guy from Florida bought it. His 4th Mustang. To state the obvious, they aren’t making those things anymore and they are super cool. I think these guys with a lot of money are smart financial peeps and that is why they have a lot of money. The old saying “if you want to make a million dollars in aviation you better start with two” just doesn’t apply anymore. In fact, it is pretty quickly becoming the opposite in some areas. Hartzell anyone? I think it’s great that guys like Travolta - who is an aviation guy - is investing in something like this. I just know the skydive I made from a Connie (might even have been this one) 24 years ago for $50, ain’t ever, ever going to happen again. I’m ok with that too, these things are too rare and valuable for some dumbsh*t skydiver to have a premature opening going out the door and taking the tail of the airplane off.

From what I know of Travolta, he has a knack for getting other people to fund his aviation related hobbies. I suspect little to none of his own money is tied up in the venture.

Last year, I went to the museum in Chino on a layover. There were 10 there that day! They said they estimated Tom Cruise's, which was there, to be worth about $4M. They said most of them there were about $2-3M. There was one D model in the shop that looked better than new. I imagine the B that was there was worth a little more?
