I am glad your motor didn't grenade. You will go forward with a warm and fuzzy that your motor has been looked at by Jet Air/Arkansas Turbine and your props have been overhauled.

I thought I would update this thread. The F model is still in the shop, engine and new props on, expecting it will be done by the end of January.

Meanwhile we bought a second bird. I flew my first two solo flights today. Lubbock TX to Smyrna TN and then Smyrna to Sioux Falls SD.

Now that I am familiar with the MU2, I cannot get the grin of my face. These are incredible aeroplanes, TBM performance for a fraction of the cost.

A BIG thanks to Todd White for helping with the sale, hope you enjoy the jet Todd! I am sure you are kicking yourself for selling though. ;)

 Glad you like the new rig. I like the dinosaur burner but I already miss the rice rocket.

Lovely Solitaire Hilgard. Best accessory is the garage door opener

Nice plane! Don't we need a new thread title though? The track record on "cheap" turbines isn't great around here.

Actually it's a P model, very similar to a Solitaire but less fuel capacity.

I have my hangar door on a Garage opener, used to be able to turn the P210 and 421 around in the hangar and "drive out" the next flight. I don't think that would work for the Mootoo though, turning radius is wider.

I know, first world problem...

For now keeping the F model, although I do have someone interested in buying it, will see once the upgrades are done.

Mike

The hangar is 80x120 feet, not really that big. I could only turn the 421 around in it while completely empty, so that did not last long. However with the P210 it was standard practice to drive into the hangar and turn around.

I thought the MU2 is the very embodiment of "cheap turbine". ;)

I don't think the track record on them is that bad. Even if I end up putting another ~100-150k into the F model after the engine work, prop OH and avionics, it is still incredible value for what I paid. 250-260kts TAS at 55-60gph is VERY hard to beat.

In the spirit of Mike Ciholas that shared his expensed on the MU2 through the years, I will provide the F model's prop OH as an example.

~25k to OH both props, that have not been touched in 18 years. Reasonable I would say.

I have not received the bill yet for the engine work but would be happy to share once available if anybody is interested.

Just use reverse and back that Mits out of the hangar!
Obviously, that will only work if the hangar is otherwise empty.
I have a lot of snow where I live and the taxiway is often pretty deep such that using the tug is challenging to get the plane back into the hangar. So I also have a garage door opener and taxi into my hangar at the end of a flight.
