Yeah, there was some unheeded "that won't work but here is what will" advice along the way- along with a lot of unhelpful stuff, sure.

I am not just talking about anonymous internet advice, which was free and a mix of very helpful to very stupid. Peter hired some competent people from the early stages to the flight test team that walked. He refused to listen to or learn from any of them.

Physics doesn't care about your intent. Can't believe this still goes on. BD-5 anyone?

It’s still going on with all the VTOL air taxi concepts.

Only if he didn’t return the money after he knew that he wasn’t going to be able to deliver. His distorted perception might have prolonged that time.

Let’s consider too that the “investors” weren’t kept in the dark. If they chose to leave their money in, and/or invest after things were clearly not working out, then they aren’t the first speculators to lose their money.

Yyyyyup.

Also, the essentials of aerodynamics, engines, and performance aren't exactly dark magic or state secrets, not in this day and age. You don't have to be an expert or really much knowledgeable at all- if you've got investment money to plug into venture capital then surely you're resourceful enough to have old friends and contacts who are more tech minded. Call up an old engineering nerd friend and ask if this is really a good idea.

Or if you believe in things like big oil hiding the 100mpg carburetor that runs on water then sure... everyone is free to do what they wish with their money.

Back in the day it was often pretty entertaining.

I like threads like this, where one person says “this is a stupid idea” and gets assaulted by a half dozen remarks about the Wright Brothers and — if we’re lucky — a quote of the Teddy Roosevelt “Man in the Arena” talk.

“Please inform us how many aircraft you’ve designed and built. . . .”

Didn’t we agree it was “taxi, Raptor, taxi?”

That was true for quite a while but later it was "Climb Raptor, PLEASE climb!"

Same guy who claimed he was a naval engineer and yet didn’t know the basic prop thrust equation. He was good for entertainment.
