About 1900nm (2214 SM) , 43kt average tailwind. 115 average GPH. 5:45 min total flight time. Landed with VFR reserves at my home airport. I was by myself; definitely couldn't have done this with more than 3 people. Jets aren't cheap but $2600 in gas to fly a Citation across the entire country eastbound isn't crazy.

Amazing machine.

Everybody knows Citations are not fast! I was doing about 350 for the first half of the trip and then it started slowing down and ended up around 310. That’s the whole technique is to keep it on the angle of attack and slow down as it burns off fuel to maximize the range.

Max speed on a 550 is about 365 but you’re not doing this trip doing that.

But I am positive that it is faster going slower because you don’t have to stop for fuel!!

That’s pretty darn good. I ran the numbers on my Baron, 10 hours and and 1400 in gas. Considering 60% of the time in pressurized comfort, that’s efficient.

So, someone once said that L/D works for everything except turbines, because the inefficacy of the Carnot cycle at lower power settings on turbines demolishes any drag savings. Or put another way, near-Carson speeds only works economically for pistons.

True or false?

Every jet I’ve flown had a max endurance and a max range AoA.

The part I cannot overlook is the comfort. It's quiet, cool, over-the-weather, and Mike probably had the coffee maker churning behind him. I think when I buy a 501 I want an espresso machine and a microwave (for the croissants).

longest trip I did in the TBM was 1550nm (5+ hours), and it was fairly uncomfortable after the second hour. and no coffee (except for a thermos, and the $1,800 cup-holder which is from a 2001 Saab).

I stopped at X60 for the first time last month for some cheap avgas. Nice airport, but the self-serve is not in a great spot.

I did 6.1 hours non-stop coming back from Florida into a massive headwind.

What Tarver didn't mention is that the TarverJet's aft lav, when the other PIC is flying right seat, is pretty darned comfortable. The range of the Slowtation can easily exceed the range of one's bladder.

don't ruin it for me. i still haven't figured out how to get the jet. can't even eat peanuts in the L39- i nearly killed myself.
