I'm going to bring my C172 to market when it comes out of this annual inspection. Photos are coming soon. Unfortunately, the clear coat on the top of the wings and horizontal stab have melted in the heat of the Arizona sun, so I'd rate the paint 7/10. The interior's maybe a 6/10. The engine was last overhauled by Penn Yan but it's coming due for another. It's been a training airplane in Phoenix for the past 6 years, and in central Mississippi for about 5 years before that. This airplane will be looking for a new home as a time builder or trainer but If you're an engine or paint shop... there's some sweat equity in this for you. The airplane has been actively flying and receiving regular maintenance the past 10 years.

Noteworthy info:
-RAM STC 160HP engine which helps in the desert's density altitude.
-Powerflow tuned exhaust (short stack, not the ugly longer one)
-ADSB-Out
-Garmin 430W with glideslope, GMA340 Audio panel, second nav/com. The rest of the panel is unremarkable but it is IFR equipped and certified.
-4-place intercom.
-All 4 cylinders compressing in the mid-high 70s.
-There's no accident history, but it survived the microbursts earlier this year with some superficial sheet metal damage on the innermost edges of the elevator where it made contact with the ramp. IA inspected.
-Wheel pants have been set aside for training. Will be installed for sale.
-The seats are all in good shape, but the state of the sidewall upholstery is a downer.

All that being said, stay tuned for photos which I will post to this drive as they come available. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ysqxnSly0ife6KlIUCcSiomZFm2aQUwx?usp=drive_link- but we all know what an older 172 looks like.

Hi Jordan. Not too sure yet because I don't have the precise times in front of me and haven't talked to a pro. Looking for the 85k range preliminarily OBO.

Looking forward to more information regarding the aircraft. At that price it screams - take the depreciation, put it on leaseback, throw in a G3x, have the local school's shop overhaul the engine when it's time, and let it fly 2000 hours over the next 5-6 years.

It screams its going to be offline and in the shop for some very expensive line items very soon

G3X and Garmin suite is $110-135k
Engine Overhaul can be up to $50k
Paint $20-25k

Not to mention the time waiting for it to be done, waiting for parts, and then offline in the shop. Its not as easy as you think

My thoughts as well, Bob. I'm hoping to price this airplane realistically. It's been a real great plane for us. I'm seeing comparable planes with nicer paint and similar panels listed in the 100-110k range. It's the paint and engine that is keeping the price down. AFTT is around 6k but I'm going to refine that when it comes out of annual. Thanks so much for your feedback.

Penn Yan just quoted $37k for the engine overhaul. You're spot on for the paint. G3x sounds like a $100 saddle on a $50 horse in this case

That's never the full price, tho - that's how they get ya. Unless you put old wiring harnesses, old manifold, old plugs, old magnetos, pumps and old hoses back on. "Hey, you should NDT and repaint the engine mount whilst it's out", "don't you want to change the baffling?".

It's gonna be $50K before it's done. ;)

The last engine overhaul that I sent to Penn Yan was exactly as advertised. To the penny. But yes, as with any findings during an inspection or overhaul, they affect the price.

One of the local flight schools has a full service shop now and prices, if you have an aircraft on leaseback, are pretty solid. Presently, I am not currently flying Normal or Utility category aircraft, only LSAs, but hope to under MOSAIC. That may end up the other route that I go because there is a really nice Bristell for sale in Georgia but it's a bit outside of several of my comfort zones. The 172 has been supported by Cessna for longer than I have been alove, they are a US-based company, and parts (outside of brake line components for the 182RG) are readily available from pretty much anywhere. Bristell, not so much.

Either way, this sounds like a solid 172 workhorse.
