Does any of the resident MU2 experts know if there is any hope yet for the Garmin or Genesys/STEC autopilot to be certified for the MU2?

I have heard rumors on and off through the years but lately it seems this has gone quiet.

Nobody is holding their breath.
Perhaps a year or more down the road.

Safe bet is to plan for it being not available.

I doubt it will happen, owners have been sent two surveys asking if they would buy it followed by no action to report.

Which, Garmin or Genesis?

This would be cool, but I kinda doubt it.

Here's the latest from February 15 from the "horses mouth" themselves, the main MU2 service center that deals directly with Mitsubishi:
"The two companies ( MHIA & Garmin ) are still in discussions and those discussions are multi-faceted. From the beginning there have been challenges with the program from fleet size to how many different models would need to be used etc… however both parties have continued to work discussions with the intent of reaching an agreement that will move the program forward and although I can not answer if they will reach an agreement yet or not I know that they are still in discussions. I can factually answer that at no time during these discussions has MHIA refused any requests of Garmin’s to advance the program that I am aware of and Garmin has continued to engage in discussions to explore making this a viable program. Only time will tell if an agreement can be reached but it most certainly will not be due to lack of trying by either party."

The STEC is a definite No. Their parent company Cobham will not allow it.

I don't think Cobham has been involved for many years. Moog bought Genesys (STEC) 3 years ago.

So Moog bought Genesys who bought Cobham who bought STEC.

Who is buying Moog? It must be in the works...

I don't think Cobham has been involved for many years. Moog bought Genesys (STEC) 3 years ago.

I looked that up and it appears you are correct, however, we had some presentations from STEC for the proposed 3100 Aerostar approval (which did happen) in 2018 and asked the reps if we could expect approval for the Mitsubishi.
This was his response then (late September ‘18):

“We discussed the MU-2 in our Monday morning meeting. Earlier this year as Jack mentioned we made a presentation to our insurance carriers regarding an autopilot for the MU-2 and they would not go for it. Unfortunately that's where it stands for now.”

In subsequent communication he told me it was not due to a decision by their company directly, but by their parent company. I assumed at the time that it was still Cobham (as it was earlier when I was looking at getting a Chelton for my Aerostar).

I temper my enthusiasm for the GFC with a good dose of pessimism.

If it does come out, I hope they don't exclude the F model for something silly. No flap interrupter cam, for example.

The F model has been awesome hustling around the state. Most trips are 1 hour hops around California ducking below bravo airspace. -1s and a 5 psi cabin are a great fit for that. The M4C autopilot has been smooth but keeps me honest. Don't forget to level off with socal micromanages your descent with 20 vectors and altitude changes. (Can someone please make an arrival into SNA from the north?)

The GFC would breathe a lot of life into the airframe and that money would spill over into everything else. Obviously, other avionics to make it a package deal, but I like to think people would spend money on the rest of the plane, too.

Come on, Garmin (and MHIA). Don't let us down. Who do I send flowers and donuts to?

Might need something stronger than flowers and donuts.
