Actual fuel flows are the same (confirmed via watching remaining fuel balance trends each side) - it's an indication error.

I think we are about the same weight (approx 8000lbs empty)...so I that leaves me only 2 legit excuses...

My Son saw a couple in CYXS last week.

What do you think this one is hauling?

Mine is 8116 lbs, I think you're lighter by maybe 150 lbs.

I've tried to figure out why mine would be a bit heavy, and also a smidge tail heavy, and have no good answer. We have very close serial numbers.

OK, fellow P180 folks. I have a few questions about some of the details of my interior bits. Nothing major, just kind of sussing things out.

  • Would like to see anyone's favorite cockpit organization tidbits. Feel I could use something other than copilot seat. iPad holder, place for sunglasses etc, whatever.
  • If you have headsets in back for pax, where are the jacks installed?
  • What is this pull out box in the armrests of the seats? Is it an ashtray? I have a hard time believing that because it's open ended in the end that slides in.
    Attachment:
    IMG_7203.jpg
  • What is this slide out thing under the cup holder of the seats? Is it an ashtray? A second cup holder (albeit shallow)?
    Attachment:
    IMG_7205.jpg
  • Does anyone have this style refreshment cabinet? It provides electric hot water/liquid, maybe a small cooler underneath that (less clear), a small trash bin in the back that's hard to reach, a small ice bucket, and some drawers underneath. None of which is very usable due to bad design. Anyone have a cabinet they like better? I would be inclined to just have something with some nice usable drawers. Unless someone has really dialed in the way this thing is meant to be used and loves it somehow.
    Attachment:
    IMG_6531.jpg
  • Does anyone have the smoke hood (not smoke goggles)? I believe this is the EROS 15-40F item in AFM Supplement 13. It takes the whole lower drawer of the cabinet behind the cockpit, and I think I'd rather have the drawer space. Compared to the O2 mask, I don't know whether I'd be able to get the hood out of the drawer, then it's box, and put it on in any kind of actual emergency. I'm told they can't be easily repacked, so I can't open it and try it without sending to some kind of $pecialty shop. If anyone thinks it is invaluable I'd be interested in the reasoning.

A few quick responses:

iPad holder
IPad Mini velcro'd to face of yoke works perfectly for me.

Place for sunglasses etc, whatever
Cubby in console behind trim indicators - priceless - ripped off Anthony's design when we did Avionics upgrades

If you have headsets in back for pax, where are the jacks installed?
I put them everywere and no one, I repeat no one, ever uses them

Beverage Center
Ours is similar, but different. I thought the coffee warmer was cool - have never used it. No cooler. Below we have all slide out drawers for misc stuff (trash bags, napkins, playing cards, headset (never used), etc)

Other interior items:
Haven't spent time back there and haven't noticed any of them.. Showed my wife - (she always sits in "bosses" chair), she hasn't noticed any of those items. I'll look.

My smoke gear is in a bag attached to the bulk head in the cockpit. For iPad I used a Pivot case, which is heavy and just about indestructible. They have a suction mount which I use to mount to the side window an that works well (though most of the time I set it by my left leg leaning against the breaker panel which I actually like better - when I need it I retrieve it, put in lap, then put back on the floor). No suggestions on the rear interior as I have a II and it's different. Headset jacks are there for all the pax but as Matt said no one has ever wanted to use them and unless they want to listen to ATC are completely unnecessary.

So funny, just as I was reading these last posts, I'm sitting in my dark living room, wife and kid in bed, and all of a sudden above I hear that unmistakeable sine wave prop noise. Can only be a P180.

Jon, is that you? ;)

Thanks for tips. Does your bag contain one of the hoods? I have goggles too, but the hood in box is… large…

Is the bag attached by Velcro? I gotta say Piaggio did seem to be in love with Velcro when they put the interior together. ;)

Googles. Not sure what you'd use a hood for as likely you'll be on O2 assuming no active fire in the cabin.

377 @ FL370 with ISA +3...fast bird

I have one pic showing 500 knots level....I do not trust it is legit because Charlotte gave me a step down and I was briefly level at FL290. As soon as I noticed speed seemed to still be above 500 I took a pic and then got a further descent.

Trip from Louisiana back home Monday.
Departed around 11,600 with pollen covered plane.
FL350 with ISA +7
Highest TAS I saw was 362

I pretty sure I have the record for slowest GS at altitude

207 at FL380 headed to Vegas last month. I could have been going a bit faster lower but FL380 was best economy and allowed me to only make one fuel stop.

Your interior is different than mine!

I put headset jacks inside armrests on sidewall except for boss seat which is in sidewall of cabin. Rarely ever gets used. No one uses headsets as it’s quieter than airliner!

I put smoke hood on little shelf behind copilot seat. I bought one on sportys that is pretty small

Not too much. I think we have same seat layout. Maybe you have a more pragmatic cabinet. ;)

I think I remain under the delusion that my wife may want to be able to talk to me. It is just so far back there!

Hmm, that sounds a bit like what Tony is saying about the bag in his cockpit, I’ll have to ponder that location a bit. Sounds like you have a more rationally sized smoke hood. The Eros one is shown here, it weighs 5 lbs and is a box about a foot square and 3-4” deep. I don’t think I want it behind me ( or copilot). Too massive. More likely to knock me out than save me.

New P180 topic - engines. Avanti I has PT6A-66. I think most IIs have PT6A-66B.

I’m a little unclear all the differences, but I believe B has slightly higher ITT limit(?) for better performance at altitude. I’d be interested to know the actual limitations and operation recommendations of the B engines from the manual, since I only have a I manual.

I have been told, by a source that seems credible, that the -66s that have serial numbers beginning with RK (i.e. of form PCE-RK00nn) have the B parts but not the B paperwork recertification that changes the documented limitations. The point was to suggest that running at a conservative 780 ITT was fine but that 785-790 ITT would also be safe due to the parts change.

Is the rumor about the RK serial numbers true? If true, is the implication about a few more degs being Ok true?

Definitely do not want to cook these engines. Comply with Section 2 limitations is a given. But cruise settings are “recommendations for improved longevity“ in the POH. Also like to know techie details anyway just for the fun of it. Anyone knowledgeable of these things?

Perhaps more broadly, I’m happy to learn more about PT6 care and feeding for longevity and effectivity.

Hey Jon. Are you on an engine program? I am - and it’s not inexpensive. I run at 780. But sometimes wonder “why baby them when I am paying huge sums to insure them?”

Thoughts from the crowd encouraged.
