I have the opportunity to pick up a neat little Luscombe project. I'm an A&P and have done similar projects before, so no worries there. However I have a few Luscombe specific questions and was hoping to find someone real knowledgeable on these planes to bounce those questions off of.
Do you guys know of any Luscombe gurus out there? The DLAHF appears to be defunct and the factory is non-responsive.

I believe the company went belly up around a decade ago. I don’t know who holds the rights to the type certificate now.

Could always try Juan Brown. I think he has owned and rebuilt 5 or 6 of them.

Marc answered all my questions and then some! Super knowledgeable and super nice. The project is not yet mine as the owner is still deciding if he wants to sell it or fix it himself. I'll be sure to post pics if I do end up with it. It would be a ton of fun to fix up and fly, and hopefully some of my nieces and nephews will take advantage of it and learn to fly.

Yes, I had an 8A that had been converted to an 8E back in the early 1970s the Auto pilot and FADC never worked and the air data computer constantly gave incorrect answers. Extremely complex airplane. In all seriousness’s one caution if it still has heel brakes, your heel can get trapped between the brake peddle and the floor. Then the only thing you can do is brake the same on the other side. Stop and free your shoe. Lots of fun in that old bird.

I have owned four Luscombes, still have one. One nice feature is all the 8A through 8F are all on the same Type Certificate data sheet. So it is easy to upgrade or downgrade if you want to make any conversions or enhancements. Very honest planes and cheap to operate. The 8As can operate LSA.
