After taking a 2 month hiatus to finish restoring my Antique Chris Craft boat for a show deadline, I am now refreshing my Twinbo ad for all BeechTalk viewers. Go to BeechTalk For Sale-Other for a picture of boat (which won Best in Class).

I have removed the spare parts from the sale package and lowered the price to $129,000 to reach more prospective buyers.

I am proud to bring to market the 12 year love of my life "Sunshine."
N1600G is a very low time 1959 D50B Twin bonanza Serial Number 211 that I purchased in February 2011 in Mesa, Arizona. The aircraft was owned/flown/maintained by Southern Airways in Atlanta during the 1960s.

As a high time 77 year old pilot, the insurance companies no longer seem to care about experience, but rather just revenue and have raised my rates substantially over the last few years. The experienced pilots lack youth and the young pilots lack experience. An unsolvable conundrum with no solution in sight. Therefore, I believe it is time to pass this magnificent machine on to a younger steward. You never really "own" a Beechcraft. Rather you just get to enjoy it for a time while it is in your possession and then pass it on to another lucky custodian.

I have flown N1600G over 488 hours as my personal aircraft over the past 12 years. I call it the original SUV as it can haul most anything you can get in the door and with a 54 inch cabin width everybody can relax and enjoy the ride. Great family airplane. The "Queen Air" couch in the rear cabin is a plus you will not find in an airplane of this class. A little slower than a Baron, but the added spaciousness more than makes up for it. With 180 gallons and a 24 GPH cruise you can usually carry about 1000 lbs in the cabin and go 1000 NM with reasonable reserves. We have flown Houston - Ft Myers nonstop both ways without overwater exposure. There is even room for a portable flushing porta potty in the rear for long flights.

Once you and your passengers get used to a TwinBo, a smaller GA airplane will no longer be acceptable.

I flew in 00G today and can attest to what an amazingly classic machine she is.

Thank you for the flight today Robert!

What a beautiful airplane! It’s hard for me to look as I’d love to have it! Original front posts and windshield as per original! Cool paint job and colors and interior! I’m so glad I don’t have a hangar big enough as I’d figure out some way to do this! Beautiful beautiful plane and classy! Wow! Can you tell I like this bird?

Thanks for the compliments. It is indeed a unique machine. I think of it as the "Poor Man's King Air."

Here are some additional photos added for everybody to see.

How do you get the steps up and down? Surely you don’t need the crew chief to help, right? ;-)

The Eisenhower Steps are something of a Rube Goldberg contraption. There are 2 electric motors with chain drives. The first motor pulls the steps inboard along a polished horizontal shaft. Once fully inboard the steps hit an electrical limit switch and the inboard motion stops. Then automatically the second motor kicks in and raises the steps up into a well in the underside of the fuselage. Overly complex but seems to work reliability for the most part. You have to be sure to keep the drive chains well lubricated to minimize the load on the motors. Replacing either motor would be a major undertaking. Prevention is the best medicine here.

History: Why the name Eisenhower Steps. As the story goes, in 1954 General Eisenhower was about to enter the White House as a newly elected President. There was competition for the government to purchase a fleet of government administrative aircraft. The competitors were Aero Commander and Beechcraft. Beech knew that as a General, Eisenhower was used to getting the Red Carpet VIP treatment when he flew. So they designed these automatic steps as a pure "wow" factor to win him over. Unfortunately Aero Commander won the contract but Beech went on to install the steps in other aircraft of the 1950s.

If I get a chance I will post a short video of the steps retracting for Beechtalk viewers.

I too can attest to the beauty of Robert’s airplane. My wife and I had the opportunity to fly with him in it last spring when we were interested in becoming T Bone owners.
All the best Robert.

I wanna know what the check pilot seat is (or is that just code for the front of the couch)?

I got to ride on the front of the couch when I picked mine up and have never gotten to ride in the back again.

The check pilot's seat is the forward facing stand alone reclining seat located on the right side of the cabin just behind the front bench seat. The couch is along the left side of the cabin behind the front bench seat. Photo below:
