Asking $6,000 or best offer including shipping USPS priority mail. I ship and receive things every day. One thing I would for sure NOT do is ship this particular item or any other instrument USPS Priority Mail, even though I use that service for other things. This looks like a very beautiful well-kept instrument, but is is delicate and you can count in it being thrown and dropped multiple times enroute. I would double box it and pack foam around it in the first box and then foam around the smaller box inside of the larger one. I would pack it as if it was a $6000 vase. I would pick an Air option with UPS or FedEx - 2nd day is fine but it's going to be handled a lot less times doing it that way and would stand a good chance of arriving in one piece. (Definitely do not use FedEx ground on something delicate since they use subcontractors who in many areas just have to hustle to get the route done. Care is not their concern.)

Is this a slide in replacement for a 3308?

Not the KCS55a, the Sandel 3500. Mike

Mike,
It's not a slide in replacement. Some wiring changes are needed. I did this upgrade myself and created a wiring harness that connected the existing wiring/connectors to the SN3500.
If you need a wiring diagram example, I can send you one.

I disagree.
What would be hard is to open up the existing wire bundles, repin each wire (the pins in the 3500 are different) and then route each wire to the new connector. In some cases you may not have enough room to move a wire from an existing connector to a new one (especially if you make it shorter). And don't get me started on working behind the panel to do this work. That would be frustrating and time consuming.
This way, you can fabricate the wire harness at home on your workbench. When you are ready, you then remove the existing connectors from the 3308 and connect up the harness. The only real work is to figure out which pins are connected to the 3308 and see if the drawing needs some modifications due to some differences on your equipment. You have to remove the brightness knob for the 3308 since it's not needed and the rack is a simple brace that tightens up from the front. In fact, you can test the installation before your complete it to make sure it works before finalizing it. If something doesn't work, remove the harness and leave in the 3308 until you correct any wiring issues.
I thought it was a rather simple conversion. The biggest challenge for me was getting the approval done. There are no STCs for the 3500 HSI, so each installation needs a separate approval. I had to go to the Aircraft Certification Office to have them sign/approve the AFM supplement for my installation. I just did this with my IA signing off the installation.
