If they have produced a sub-500 hp turboprop that really only has "a little extra fuel burn" it will be a runaway success. The problem to date has been a lot extra fuel burn - to the point that weight is the issue regardless of cost.

Other than a very very limited experimental exhibition market, the VL3 doesn't exist in the USA, can't imagine this new one will be any different.

LSA today is piston-only, so that's a problem right there.
These European "Super LSA"s -- besides the VL3, there's the Shark, Risen, WT9, Blackwing, etc. -- all have the same problem here, the Experimental-Exhibition limitation is a deal-breaker for almost everyone. Several importers for years have talked about a factory build option, where you build it on the production line at the factory so it can be registered as E-AB, but I've never seen any evidence of such a program actually being implemented.

To me this is more about the turbine than the airframe.
If it proves reliable with good fuel flow, this will be good for the Experimental market over here.

Yeah, the SFC goes way up as the size of the turbine gets smaller.
Small turbines also don't seem to enjoy quite the lifespan associated with larger turbine engines. At a certain size, it gets impractical to have cooling passages and film cooling outlets on hot section parts.

I spoke with the VL3 dealer at sun n fun and they claim that is is available as an EAB now. You would go out to the factory in Czech Republic for a week or two to assist with the build and that meets the requirements for 51%. It sounded like they have done this already for some customers but I didn’t press him on all the details.

It would be interesting to see how the DAR process works if they are doing E-AB in the Czech Republic. The company would have to be working with a DAR in the US and ship the plane here to have it inspected and then registered. I would be very curious to know if they have actually completed that process on any aircraft in the US …

Rumor is they will be adding another turbine to their product lineup as well, conveniently already also named Evolution: Attachment: jmbaircraft.png
