Joel,
Just a note. It's a no no to publicly quote CAA prices. You may want to edit your post.

Mark’s comment on SIC’s is true but I’m not sure the daily rate is the issue which he knows. Around the hinterlands in So IN having a qualified SIC, schedule that fits with yours, availability, enjoys sitting (free?) in a motel room while Mark and I ski for one/two weeks are few and far between. Of course we could each airline them home and airline them back? Paying a daily rate of 500-1,000 isn’t always the issue.

Ps if only we had JC’s money this would not be an issue…. :liar:

And that is the issue, it’s the overall hassle and (wasted) expenses. I don’t think most operators have an issue paying for an SIC, but they do have an issue with paying him $7k for a “vacation” week… but can’t fault the pilot, because he could be flying other trips.

Thanks for the reminder but unable to edit it for some reason… no “edit” button on the post.

I was at KAVQ (Marana, AZ north of Tucson) Wednesday for autopilot troubleshooting and the bunch of corporate jets that comes for an annual retreat at one of the area resorts was in the process of leaving. We’re talking about 60-80 up to Gulfstream-class jets at an uncontrolled airport. Quite impressive for what historically has been a sleepy farming community. The avionics guys were amazed at the number of larger jets that arrived with only one or two passengers. This would appear to be a group that is essentially impervious to rising fuel prices.

Being able to depart the crosswind runway was a blessing with four of the jets lined up for departure on the main runway and of course all needing IFR clearances.

Probably flew in for a climate change convention with a guest speaker on income equality.

Sonoma county gets it every year for Bohemian Grove. South Lake Tahoe for the annual celebrity golf tournament.

Ha ha! No, this is a real estate development firm, so good old-fashioned capitalism at work.

Chip,

Did you do many Like-Kind exchanges? I wonder if the removal of doing those with aircraft are another factor in the low inventory situation.
